AUFC: Back in Asia?
Due to the Asian comps moving to a calendar that matches us and west Asia. There's some special criteria for qualifying for the next edition.
Australia are getting 3 spots
1 entry in the champions league: this is going to go to the team that accrued the most points over the last 2 seasons. The only 2 possible teams for this are us or Melbourne City. Highly unlikely it will be us though as they got 6 points more than us but we can dream.
2 entries into the AFC Cup: One is going to Macarthur for winning the Australia Cup. The other slot is going to either the league winners this year or in the case that Melbourne City win the league, the team that finishes second. That's us at the moment!
AFC Cup could be fun. Get to see some different teams and styles of play. We have a better chance of winning a few games too.
Any way, another thing for us to aim for

That would be brilliant. Mid-week games with little really at stake, against exotic teams …. bring it on.

Re: AUFC: Back in Asia?
Playing in Asia does feel like a natural fit for us ... as opposed to the bogans from the western suburbs of Sydney, whose experience and understanding of Asia would start and finish with a Chinese takeaway.
It would be really satisfying to once again dumbfound all the haters and doubters in the eastern states, too, who were stunned into silence when we made it all the way to the final of the ACL.

Very close to securing this one.
Whilst the prize money is woeful (remember G.Griffith threatening to pull out?) The exposure is great.
If only the SA Govt and various business' (Thomas Foods) knew of the potential.

I'm surprised that the state's biggest company, Santos, has not picked up on the national exposure of AUFC. It would be a very good expression of their 'soft power' .... especially given that the green nimby morons are determined to shut them down.

With ISA out for maybe a month are chances of coming second doesn’t look good , this is the 1 area we lack class in

Isa out means it’s harder, yes, but I saw enough from Barnett & D’Arrigo as a pair to think our chances of second still look more likely than not. Two home games to come. With ISA out for maybe a month are chances of coming second doesn’t look good , this is the 1 area we lack class in

I still see this as D'Arrigo's natural position; the combination of football-brain and mongrel required to make this position work.Isa out means it’s harder, yes, but I saw enough from Barnett & D’Arrigo as a pair to think our chances of second still look more likely than not. Re: AUFC: Back in Asia?
my partner worked for Santos for many years. The current CEO is a rugby guy, so they sponsor the Wallabies. And Tour Down Under, for greenwashing purposes (all while pulling funding for the Royal Flying Doctors lol)I'm surprised that the state's biggest company, Santos, has not picked up on the national exposure of AUFC. It would be a very good expression of their 'soft power' .... especially given that the green nimby morons are determined to shut them down.
They have been trying to position themselves as a 'national' rather than a 'South Australian' company for years, so I don't see them prioritising sponsorship for SA sports clubs.
Calling their opponents 'green nimby morons' is very harsh, they deserve plenty of criticism imo
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

Re: AUFC: Back in Asia?
Courtney Barnett had a cracking game against Sydney, can't believe he was subbed off so early. Isaias is a loss but Barnett & D'Arrigo getting lots of time together will be good to see.

Asian comp nights at Hindmarsh... feels like ages since we last played in Asia. Would be super keen to travel for games again too.

I really miss our ACL campaigns, some of the most fun games at Hindmarsh. Just a totally different vibe and I don't know why other A-League fan bases never really embraced the comp in the same way.

New teams to play, always the underdog, new and passionate away fans coming out of the woodwork around Adelaide to support their teams or teams from their nation, Socceroo Jesus being denied by Eugene with cat like reflexes, surprising heroes like Iain Ramsay scoring bangers.I really miss our ACL campaigns, some of the most fun games at Hindmarsh. Just a totally different vibe and I don't know why other A-League fan bases never really embraced the comp in the same way.
What's not to love.
I always thought it was crazy that MV and Sydney played second teams and put the ACL at a low priority.
