Penalties awarded to the AUFC
Time to get on my soapbox now - can anyone remember the last time that AU was awarded a penalty? I don't have access to any of the A-League statistics, but I can't recall being awarded even one this season and we're already more than a third of the way through.
On a related point, I'd like to see the stats on which referees have awarded us penalties over the last 2 - 3 seasons too. A chart listing something like 'Penalties awarded to the AUFC' alongside 'Penalties awarded to the rest', with all the names of the refs listed below and how many penalties they have awarded would be really interesting. My gut feeling, backed by precisely no evidence, is that neither Peter Green nor Shaun Evans has ever awarded us a penalty and I'd like to know if this is true or not.
So it could look something like ...
AUFC Penalties Penalties to all other teams
Smith 0 4
Jones 0 2
Bloggs 0 1
.... and so on. I'm sure that the extremely smart WATR contributors can come up with something that is both readable and revealing. If my gut feeling is right and interstate refs do not award us penalties (or much fewer than other teams), then that would be an interesting metric to present to the director of refereeing within the FFA.

would be a hell of a lot of data to trawl through to get the answers, but it would be interesting to see if the stats back up our regular sense of injustice at the officiating.
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

Would love to know as well.
And while we're on the topic of pens, Izzo has saved five since returning to AUFC. Does anyone know his pen save percentage and is it the best in the league.

Incredible ... just hours after I post that the AUFC haven't received a single penalty all season, Jarrad Gillett awards one to us for Boogard bowling over Ryan Kitto. I wonder if JG reads WATR ....?

I was speaking to boogs at a club function a few years back and asked him if I should put him in my fantasy league. He clear cut told me he gives too many pens away gets red cards and scores owns goals. Had a good laugh at that. Can always rely on a Boogs brainfadeIncredible ... just hours after I post that the AUFC haven't received a single penalty all season, Jarrad Gillett awards one to us for Boogard bowling over Ryan Kitto. Redtide, If you head to the transfermarkt website they have all that information available on their stats pages albeit seperately, here are a few interesting HAL only stats-
18/19 AUFC
1 penalty awarded (1 converted)
1 penalty conceded
17/18
1 penalty awarded (1 converted)
10 penalties conceded (5 converted)
16/17
4 penalties awarded (4 converted)
10 penalties conceded (9 converted)
Shaun Evans has not awarded a penalty for or against us in the last 2.5 seasons.
Peter Green has awarded 2 against us and 0 for us in the last 2.5 seasons.

My theory that neither Evans nor Green has ever awarded us a penalty (at least in the past 2.5 seasons) is vindicated. Also, if we conceded 10 in 17-18 but only five were converted to goals, then that would seem to prove sub007's theory that Izzo is the best saver of penalties in the competition.

Sheesh. we average 10 penalties against the kast two seasons! In a 27 game season plus finals, thats a massive amount.

Cheers mate. Those stats would prove that Izzo is a beast at saving pens. However the pens awarded stat for last season is incorrect. I remember Baba missing a pen last season.Redtide, If you head to the transfermarkt website they have all that information available on their stats pages albeit seperately, here are a few interesting HAL only stats-

Those stats dont include finals but It's actually roughly in the middle of the pack. Out of the other 10 teams, 10 is about average.Sheesh. we average 10 penalties against the kast two seasons! In a 27 game season plus finals, thats a massive amount.
When in comes to penalties for us we are in the bottom 2 for the last 2.5 seasons.
*Don't forget that the VAR came in mid season 16/17 and the whole of 17/18. They were handing out pens like crazy when the VAR first came in..... just not to us haha

Re: Penalties awarded to the AUFC
As much as i would like to say the world is against us imo refs are equally shit for everyone though out tough calls tend to change the match.
With that being said there is a bias towards the big clubs and players but this is something common the world over and i would not say its a conscious phenomena from the refs

Re: Penalties awarded to the AUFC
... which just proves the theory that the Big Two bully boy clubs get the easiest possible ride from the referees, getting twice as many penalties as any other club. Bloody depressing.
Thanks for the research anyway, UP.
