Women's World Cup 2023
We've landed it and Adelaide is on the list of venues! It will be a fantastic event and really boost for football in the country.
It will be interesting to see how this effects funding for the W-League, particularly corporate sponsorship and broadcasting.

Amazing!! We really should be hosting stuff like this far more often! I have no doubt we'll nail it and Australia will be considered for many more FIFA events.
Time to Djbate!

Excellent news!
WC coming to Oz!
Could we win it on home soil?
Why not!?!

Re: Women's World Cup 2023
One aspect of this that will be very welcome will be the corporate investment in the women's game over the next three years. Companies getting on the band-wagon will be very welcome over a period that is likely to be very lean for most sports seeking corporate sponsorship and investment.

The ACT Govt has said Canberra pulled out as a host because they required 3 month exclusive access to Canberra stadium. Given that grounds like Hindmarsh are involved, I assume this means the A-League isn't moving to winter any time soon then.

There would just be a hiatus over the international window. That is what most apex leagues that run a calendar year season do.The ACT Govt has said Canberra pulled out as a host because they required 3 month exclusive access to Canberra stadium. Just one or possibly two. Alternate grounds would be used during the exclusion period when it overlaps. I've often though Glenelg oval would be a decent little alternate venue, I think it's the smallest ground in the SANFL. Throw in a regional game or two and you'd be through the overlap in no time.

2023 sounds like a good year to come down again.
I just hope Adelaide / Hindmarsh gets some group games.

Re: Women's World Cup 2023
That is an incredible relief. Knowing that the FFA can only see as far as the Vic/SA and NSW/SA border, I had a grim feeling that Hindmarsh would miss out. If we did, then I was ready to storm the FFA HQ with my pitchfork and flaming torch in hand.
Now at least we can look forward to the world's best women players playing in Australia and NZ - and with plenty of live action here in South Australia.
Given the enormous Brit expat population here, I wonder if the SA Government can request that England - who are bound to qualify - could be based here?

https://indaily.com.au/news/2021/04/01/ ... world-cup/The Government linked a $45 million commitment to upgrade the capacity of Adelaide United’s home ground at Hindmarsh to its World Cup bid – but the venue’s operator, Adelaide Venue Management Corporation, says that still won’t bring it up to code.
