First game for the u-20 AFC Asian Cup for us today; vs Vietnam.

Great that Panashe, Johnny & Bernando have a call-up though I am unsure as to why Nestory didn't make the cut; good for us I suppose.
I get the feeling we said you can only take 3 players.

Being a club who relies so much on these youngsters, we have the potential to be absolutely gutted for these youth comps (compared to other teams).

You could be right as it isn't a FIFA window and hence there is no obligation for clubs to release players (which would explain why Mo Toure also isn't selected given he's carving it up with Riem B ).

0-1 loss to Italy in the first game of the U20 WC.

I only caught the last 15 mins but we looked very lethargic moving forward for a side that was chasing the game. Ball speed was so slow it gave the Italians so much time to get back behind the ball.

Disappointing turn out of AU players as well! The club only had 7 current or former players involved! :D

I heard the result before I got to see the game. If you're going to get pumped 4-1 thats the way to do it. I think the lads should be proud of that performance and on another day the result could have easily been 2-2.

Australia defeated Cuba 3-1 and with that an outside chance to qualify in the "lucky third" lottery.

I don't know if you can see the highlights at the end of this link.

So no 3rd place lucky loser back door ticket to the knockouts.

Oh well, at least our boys will be back in the fold a bit sooner than expected - silver linings and all that

AU has created a bit of an issue for themselves withdrawing Tatu from the Asian Cup qualifiers taking place in just over a week. I'm not sure what the reason is the club has asked to have him excluded. If it was down to recovery time from the trip to The Netherlands, then its odd that Kasumovic has been included in the squad now instead, who also took part in the trip.

I can only assume they want him training with the A-League squad, to be ready for the start of the upcoming season.

I think he definitely deserves it. Fingers crossed the club is able to get him on board for a new contract if he's still sitting on the scholarship contract that was the last deal announced with him.

I also wonder if there are a bunch of these unannounced extensions like we have seen with Yull, Jovanovic and Dukuly. Maybe there are a heap of these clauses written into most of the squad and should a player hit a certain kpi like number of games or goals they are automatically re-signed on these deals.

The angry mob with torches and pitchforks is well and truly on the hunt of someone at Adelaide now that the U20's didn't make the Asian Cup! I would love to hear from all parties on this to learn why the likes of Tatu didn't travel.

I wonder if there has been a quota system made so clubs like Adelaide that develop more than their fair share of the Australian talent aren't constantly having their squad pilfered.

Eh... if you can't win without two AU players but you were champions last time around, then there are bigger issues.

An absolute disaster for the young kids. I'd say heads need to roll but the FA are a shambles.
