I think this is a good example of how close the NPL and AL standards have got to. It's still a step up from NPL to play AL but IMO the gap has never been smaller.

Thats a good point its been a few years now that the comp has kicked off so early and we're seeing more cupsets than ever before. Naturally due to it kicking off so far ahead of the AL season starting. So I'd say that adds to it for sure.
IMO the gap closing isn't a bad thing for the football landscape. I don't think its all one direction either. I think the AL sides have dropped off in class but the bigger NPL clubs have certainly improved.
Hopefully it's one less thing standing in the way of more competitive games between AL and NPL clubs.

Yes, though it may come down to money. Not so much the amount of money in the game, but more the minimum level of organisational and infrastructure standards for competing in the A-League.

Looks like SMFC are making a play for WU's now removed licence. Cmon just give them a crack! We already know what's the worst that could happen.

I would love SM to come up with the money and financial security required for entry. Would be a good place to start some reintegration of new football and old soccer.
