Gianni Infantino is about to be re-elected for his final term as head of FIFA. After that, in accordance with FIFA regulations, he has to stand down from his position as Chief Corruption Officer at FIFA.

Therefore (in order to secure a properly funded retirement) Infantino is proposing that FIFA sell off the World Cup competition to a separate corporation with a significant % of outside ownership. The Trump family of companies of course gets first option on buying in (at mates rates).
No one knows who would run that organisation (*cough* Infantino *cough* collecting on the I-scratch-your-back-you-scratch-mine, mates rates, quid pro quo) but that person (*cough* Infantino *cough*) wouldn't have to worry about any pesky FIFA regulations about a maximum term in the position.

The plan is being sold to FIFA's members as as ... Under current arrangements we give you member federations $8m each from the World Cup (about $1.6b out of the $12.7b they just turned over). If you let me privatise it, we promise to give you $20m each straight away (after raising $4.2b from the initial sale proceeds).

Of course they aren't telling you how much you'll get from future World Cups, or that as soon as they can that they'll run it every second year (instead of four yearly), of that the owners and chairperson will be pocketing billions of dollars themselves that would otherwise have been available to member federations.

I think FA could have opposed this in the strongest possible terms and no one would have noticed.

I have zero doubt if Gianni goes, we're just going to have the next version of him behind him. Unless the whole system gets an overhaul.
