Random Music Thread
Thought I'd start a thread for interesting bits of music people come across.
Been listening to this mob lately, Otava Yo. Modern folk from Russia; the Cossack log dancing in the clip isn't shabby!

Due to the overwhelming response I have opted to continue the thread.
This week it is Mongolian throat music meets Van Halen, with 'The Hu'.

Re: Random Music Thread
Both of these bands showed up in my recommendations on you tube a while back out of the blue.
Very interesting sound.
There is some very good Austrian music happening at the moment and I'll post something soon.

Quite compelling. You feel like you've been pulled into an early Guy Ritchie movie.

Ok, heading South from Mongolia (looong way South) we have Cambodia Space Project. The lead singer died in a traffic accident about three years ago; utter tragedy. I often listened to this band live after watching AUFC play, 15 or 20 of us crammed onto a boat or in a small bar. A few years later they were playing WOMAD, Berlin, New York and whatnot. Here's one of the songs they almost always had early in their set "Chnam oun dop pram moi" (I've turned 16).

Re: Random Music Thread
Great sound.
Terrible news about the singer.
I can vaguely remember you posting some live video of a band playing on a boat once or am I mixing stuff up?

Further South again, off to Australia, where Jospeh Tawadros has drawn upon his Egyptian heritage to pull together this orchestral piece featuring the oud.
"Constantinople" featuring the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by Benjamin Northey.
It is pretty bloody amazing.

Re: Random Music Thread
It's a small world.
I realised upon viewing the "Constantinople" video again that the woman violinist sitting in the second violin row is a friend of ours.
I'm staying in the East and I mean that in a couple of ways.
I'm a big fan of Greek Rembetiko and a while ago I came across the band
" Pyramidos " who spun me out big time.
A band from Tokyo playing predominately Greek rembetika and Laika.
And singing in Greek of course.
Here is Rodehihi the main guy from Pyramidos with a rembetiko song from the 30s called "I drink and I get drunk" .

Nice! I mean both Rodehihi and the fact your friend is playing with the Sydney Symphony.

I do enjoy these guys from Finland, Steve'n'Seagulls. They do blue grass cover versions of various songs.
