Eugene Galekovic Retires - Share Your Memories!
Eugene Galekovic has today announced his retirement from professional football as a player.
It is both weird and sour that his career ended at the same place that gave him so much.
I'll never forget his save against Nagoya in the Round of 16 at Hindmarsh.
Josh Kennedy, who was playing for them at the time, rose to meet a cross and headed downwards. It was a certain goal. There was a small chorus of 'aww' that began to escape everyone's mouths. But, somehow, there were cheers. What happened? We conceded!
No, we didn't. Euge had somehow reached behind him with a single hand, on his left side in the very corner of the goal, and palmed it out. Unreal. Hindmarsh erupted!
All the best to him! What's your favourite memory of our former skipper?

Im just thankful he caught that ball that rolled between his legs, i dont think any aufc fan would have been happy to see eugene go out like that.
I know its not his style, but its a shame the crowd werent aware it was his last game, a standing ovation would have been happily obliged by fans as he left the pitch

I'd forgotten that save against Kennedy, that was one of the finest you'll see.
When he arrived no one really knew what to expect, we quickly found out. He was genuinely an international standard keeper and it's sad he wasn't afforded more time in the green and gold.
I found it somewhat poetic that his career ended at the very same end of the same ground where he made his name, and where we chanted it for so long. Almost fitting too, that perhaps his one weakness, the near post, was how he bowed out.
My favourite Eugene memory ?? It's not even a save.... It's the picture of sheer ecstasy at Adelaide Oval over 3 years ago. Collapsed to his knees with his fists clenched.

It does feel right that his last a-league game was at hindmarsh, even if it wasn't in a red shirt. So many times he saved us. I remember the time he got an assist vs Sydney, getting the ball to mabil for a 1-0 win away, in a game he made so many saves.

Yep, mine too. I will always remember watching from the stands that day and seeing Euge drop to his knees. It kinda summed up how I was feeling - all those years of dashed hopes and disappointment, finally some redemption for the previous 2 GF's.
I know he wasn't there from day 1 but he was the longest serving player, the captain and you knew at that moment that it mean't just as much to him as it did to us.

You guys nailed it with the grandfinal moment.
Eugene our long serving captain, pablo our loved import and amor our manager a barca legend all reduced to tears.... for me given the differing backgrounds of all 3 players and the moment i dont think there has ever been a moment that the rusted on AUFC fan has felt a stronger connection to the club.

Perfect, huge tick for the owners and Kossie Jnr.
Re: Eugene Galekovic Retires - Share Your Memories!
Heck yeah! Eugene as goalkeeping coach and Bruce on the board would be great acquisitions.
Both can have the boots handy as well should injuries hit

The game away to Sydney where he assisted Mabil's goal is up there too.
