Gombau to WSW
Set to be unveiled as the new coach today, wondering what everyone makes of this.
I'm a bit pi$$ed off actually.

Re: Gombau to WSW
Leaves Adelaide at short notice during pre-season for "family reasons" wife was homesick etc. Takes up job with David Villa's academy in New York. Comes back to Aus full time as WSW coach.

Re: Gombau to WSW
I have no doubt there were some things at play behind the scenes when he left that factored into his decision but it definitely has some sour elements to it..
Have mixed feelings about this overall, IMO he should still be coaching the Olyroos.

Football is fluid and is constantly evolving. I have the utmost respect for the guy who stood up to the local media and gave confidence to some of United's young players. Hopefully he'll have no need for his unique goal celebrations on Nov 26 and April 15.

Re: Gombau to WSW
We need the best possible coaching in our youth teams at NT level.
So from that point of view it is disappointing.
Should see some LOL 'journalism' from Val now, regarding WSW at least. He still hates him from his time here.

Re: Gombau to WSW
Given our club history im almost 100% sure those were not the real reasons for his departure.Leaves Adelaide at short notice during pre-season for "family reasons" wife was homesick etc. Takes up job with David Villa's academy in New York. Comes back to Aus full time as WSW coach.
Dickhead.
From what i understand Gombau was often promised certain things but given peanuts. Which is also what happened to Amor in his second season.
Either way i dont like this, if it was perth, ccm, newy, the nix i could get used to it.
Im a really big fan of Kurz though. He isnt as marketable as Gombau but I think he is more likely to win trophies in the Aleague than Gombau given his style and mentality seems to be a better fit for Aleague success.
I actually feel Kurz could leave a longer lasting legacy here than those before him.

Re: Gombau to WSW
It's pretty annoying but...
As long as the club has learnt its lesson, then for this, I am satisfied.
It's a whole new era at AU now, time to move on.
...this basically sums up my feelings.

Re: Gombau to WSW
Old AUFC players returning from overseas now more likely to sign with city AND wsw.
Goodwin, Mabil, Jeggo, Mcgree are almost odds on to play for either of these clubs in the future guaranteed! Elrich back to WSW next season?
Ohwell im happy with our visa players, manager and youth. Not so bad after all

Re: Gombau to WSW
Devastated, but I hold nothing against him. Still a club legend in my eyes, and when he comes back here I hope he gets a warm welcome. Made United exciting to watch, first coach we had to really do that except in Rini's first 12 weeks. Obviously the "personal reason" was a smoke and mirrors reason for leaving, but I can't blame him look how many people have left in that time, only people to blame for that are the board. IMO no man has had as much impact on the football aspects of this club as Gombau, sad to see him somewhere else but it is fantastic for the league, at least that is one more team that will be playing some good football now, will hopefully make the Sydney derbies watchable.
Also, so Gombau was available for City and they went for that Pommy bloke instead? What a terrible decision, Gombau fits in with the style of play that Man City play too if CFG really want to make it a project.

Re: Gombau to WSW
I am a big Gombau fan.
I was disappointed when he left us.
I was disappointed when it was shown up to NOT be homesickness when he ended up in the US, but could understand that maybe he left for other behind the scenes reasons.
I was disappointed when he came back to Oz as Olyroos coach, but was happy for the young players under his care and for Australia's better prospects with him as coach.
But this move to WSW is the most disappointing - I experience it as both a betrayal of the Olyroos and a betrayal of AUFC. The only reason I can see for this particular move is money. And that disappoints me.
