Re: Wellington Phoenix
Sounds like the entire thing is pretty unlikely.
Although I'm not the biggest fan of the Nix being in the HAL, I think the game isn't really in a position to be too selective over who is in. If they are viable then they really should be in. Nix seems fairly viable so I think the FFA should focus on expansion and not keeping numbers as low as they are. I think once the HAL is around 14 then we can look at cutting clubs that don't suit the model etc.
Beggars can't be choosers!

Apparently all other HAL clubs have licences til 2034.
I don't think the FFA want the HAL to be like the NRL and only popular in the eastern states.
Adelaide will always have a team.

Not just yet. IMO the FFA have just loaded up the gun, pointing it at the Nix and basically saying "You and all of NZ football have 4 years to fix this and start pulling your weight or you're gone. You don't get to dilly dally with 10 years".RIP in peace

Re: Wellington Phoenix
I've found it a little odd that the debate over the Nix in the media is so one sided. Everyone is heart broken they are getting treated this way.
looking around the forums it seems the public doesn't feel the same one sided way.

I think the subtext is "We'll pay you to fuck off now", which probably means they've got a bid lined up that will be able to cover the cost of that and more. Not just yet. So either the crazy Cronulla Sharks proposal or more likely something like Melbourne City.
Re: Wellington Phoenix
I liked Gallop for a long term when he was first appointed but his blatant bias towards NSW is causing increased concern for me.

Re: Wellington Phoenix
I really agree with what Lucy and Fozz discussed on this last night.
The FFA came out and gave a very limited story on what's happening. Then got upset when everyone naturally tried to fill in the blanks.
I think for Frank to come out and draw their own conclusions is pretty arrogant.
Its like they think they are the only ones who have to game at heart or something.

Re: Wellington Phoenix
Read more at http://www.a-league.com.au/article/foot ... 8kaxROH.99Football Federation Australia (FFA) and Wellington Phoenix have agreed to a 10-year-deal for the extension of the club’s Hyundai A-League licence.
Sounds like a great deal for everyone on the outset. I think putting the onus on NZ football to bring more to the party is important. The extensions at the conclusion of the 2019/20 and 2022/23 seasons are dependent upon:
•FIFA, AFC, OFC and NZF authorising each extension;
•The Phoenix reaching benchmarks on attendances and greater financial contributions to the A-League.

Ditto. Getting rid of one of our few financially stable clubs is a largess the league cannot afford right now.Great.
