It seems that the East and West sides won't meet until the final which is disappointing.
Isn't that how it is every year?
Last year was the 1st time it was like that. Prior to that the groups merged at the Quarter Final stage.

Quarter finals kick off tomorrow night with Kashiwa Reysol v Guangzhou. The little club that could vs the behemoth.

Jeonbuk are taking on Gamba in a clash of the usual suspects.

Always got a soft spot for Gamba these days.
Not sure how a J-league club can be a little club!

Kashiwa Reysol are quite a story. The place they are from is basically a "dormitory town" and have a stadium that is a little smaller than Coopers. They don't have a lot of supporters but the ones they do have are fanatical.

I'd like to think that others would consider us as a "usual suspect" ;)

Yeah I think Bunyodkor (or what ever they call themselves now) Gamba and Pohang would hopefully consider AU as the usual suspect from Australia.

Yeah same. I find that whenever I'm looking at the J-League tables, I look for where Gamba are first :D

Paulinho!

:o
Indeed. Guangzhou were all over them, though a bad-luck own goal from Kashiwa didn't help matters.

Gamba looked better away to Jeonbuk. The 0-0 result puts them in the box seat for the return fixture. Usami is back from Europe and playing with them; looked a real class act.

Kashiwa managed a credible 1-1 away draw with moneybags but lost on aggregate, and Gamba went through with a win against Jeonbuk setting up a very tasty Guangzhou - Gamba clash........and I do believe I shall be in Japan for the return leg

Guangzhou defeated Gamba 2-1 which makes for an interesting return leg. Bit of an odd game, seemed to lack energy in parts and was frantic in others.

One hell of a penalty (correct as it was). Can't say I've ever seen that before.

Hilarious scenes then the bloke misses the penalty. If the petro leagues wonder why they rarely win the ACL. I think that might help them find the answer.
