2022 World Cup Qualifiers - Socceroos
The squad to face Kuwait has been announced and there are some interesting names in there including Borrello who is back in form and playing well for FC Freiburg after a long injury lay-off. Taggart is in scinitillating form in Korea so it will be interesting to see who gets the nod to start up the pointy end.
From the Red's perspective Jeggo, Goody, Awer and Leckie are all in the squad.
The full squad is:
Mustafa Amini, Aziz Behich, Brandon Borrello, Milos Degenek, Apostolos Giannou, Craig Goodwin, Rhyan Grant, Ajdin Hrustic, Jackson Irvine, James Jeggo, Mitchell Langerak, Mathew Leckie, Massimo Luongo, Awer Mabil, Jamie Maclaren, Mark Milligan, Aaron Mooy, Andrew Redmayne, Mathew Ryan, Trent Sainsbury, Brad Smith, Harry Souttar, Adam Taggart

Re: 2022 World Cup Qualifiers - Socceroos
0-3 at the finish and a rather pleasing start to the campaign. Jimmy Jeggo had a very good game and has made a decent claim for further starts in the DM role, particularly as he freed up Mooy to play a more creative, aggressive role.
Nice to see Leckie with a couple, though he didn't know much about the first and Awer looked very lively when he came on.
Kuwait had a good 10 minute patch around the 60' but some nice saves from Ryan kept them out. Sainsbury seemed to be giving his man an extra inch of room, and inch that could cost us against better teams.

Not a great performance but great result away from home. Any away win in qualifying is absolutely golden. Well done to the lads, in particular the ex-AU boys.
Mooy desperately needs to get some game time at Brighton following from this. Not that he played badly at all, we just need him to stay in top form.

Agreed. It was damn hot and for most of the second half Australia was seeing out the game. Not easy on the eye but a professional approach which is needed on the road in harsher climes. Not a great performance but great result away from home.

these are the kind of fixtures we have struggled in previously. Getting a 3-0 win on the road is brilliant. Just need the points at this stage, performance will improve with confidence.

Squad is out for the Nepal & Taiwan games with no real changes bar Baily-Wright in for Sainsbury (injured) and Milligan in. I am not sure what Milligan would add unless we are playing three at the back.
These games should be a doddle and I hope GA uses them to give some of the fringe players some decent time on the park.

Goodwin in the starting line-up against Nepal.

Mabil came on and made an instant impact with 10-15 mins to go.
Leckie, Goodwin and Mabil- 3 AUFC faves battling for the wing spots in the Socceroos. Good to see. Plus Jeggo has a toe in the Socceroos.

Pretty average performance but we were never going to lose that. Men against boys out there.

Hopefully a tougher game tonight, our defence could really use a decent hit-out. I'm not convinced it will be though.
I'm not sold on Harry Souttar as I'd like to see him up against some fleet-footed attackers, the type we'll face in spades in the next round. Hopefully Chen Po-Liang can find some space to test the defence now and then.

Souttar reminds me of a bulkier Robbie Cornthwaite- A little bit lanky and goofy but a good option for set pieces and corners, particularly in Asia.Hopefully a tougher game tonight, our defence could really use a decent hit-out. I'm not convinced it will be though.

Hrustic is looking the goods and Brad Smith has improved out of sight now he's playing regular football.

0-1 overnight, Taggart scoring early.
We are not looking convincing however are now pretty well locked into the next round with 3 of the next 4 at home.
Taiwan and perhaps Kuwait are likely to be an absolute walk-overs and as such would be better having the games in places such as Townsville and Hobart rather than playing the games in empty stadiums in Melbourne and Sydney.

Re: 2022 World Cup Qualifiers - Socceroos
Yeah Jordan has always been a tricky place to go to. I think that's our first ever win there. But 4 wins from 3 away matches including our 2 main rivals is very promising.0-1 overnight, Taggart scoring early.

If we can win the next two games against Nepal away and Kuwait at home, then Jordan slip up in the next two games we assured top stop and hopefully Arnie will be able to try a few new things in the final games and give a few fringe players a run.
Time to Djbate!
