Judging by that first half against Hungary we are in huge trouble against France. Griezmann and co are going to destroy us.

So a very unconvincing 2-1 win.
Arzani scoring with a tame shot but huge goalkeeping error.
Sainbury then heads past Jones for an own goal, massive miscommunication.
Then Hungary own goal which has the BVM and the Aussie bench laughing.

OVerall the defence looked poor, the midfield lacked control of the ground and we did not show much up front, both Nabbout and Juric offered nothing. Arzani had some nice touches and an excellent ball for Irvine before the own goal. Must do a lot better against France or France will destroy us.

It was not the best game by the national team but it was a great day out in Budapest.

France only drew 1-1 against a young USA squad who were clearly using the match to give young players experience against top quality opposition.
Watched the first half and France was dominate against a USA team who parked the bus and scored from one of only very limited attacking chances. France wasted quite a few good opportunities, Griezmann shot wide a couple of times when he should have hit the target, Kante missed controlled the ball on the edge of the area when he was completely free to have a shot, Pogba mucked up an excellent position inside the box, Giroud headed straight at the keeper. Still I thought France looked a bit awkward in the final third.

Hungary are a much better team than given credit, they recently made the quarters of the euro but currently have had some terrible results.

We didnt play fantastic but honestly who cares, its the final friendly before the wc next week. The intensity and pressure are just not the same.

The “aussie mentality” has a tendancy to band together on the biggest stage and play out of their skins when least expected.

Is Risdon seriously the best RB we have though!? He is a liability every game.

Im tipping we will be thoroughly out played by france, will be competitive against the danes and will make the world take notice against peru.

I say this only taking into account australias form arc at international tournaments

Its quite uncanny, every group stage its a very similar theme regardless of the opposition.

Effort abd performance however does not equal points. I feel like 2 points from the group would be a good result considering .

Risdon probably is the best specialist RB we have, there could be arguments for Atkinson being better despite being so young and no one really knows the quality of Karacic. Players like Williams, Deng or LBs playing on the wrong side might be better but again hard to know without trying them.

Sallai was excellent for Hungary and others played quite well but they are a third tier European team, they will be playing in League C of the upcoming UEFA Nations League.

France will dominate possession and chances against us, it is just whether the scoreline reflects that or not, certainly did not in the first half of France - USA or our matches against Germany and to a lesser extent Cameroon at the Confederations Cup.

Erikson is the key from Denmark, if he has a very good game then we could lose heavily but if his influence can be limited while not giving other players too much freedom then we could do well.

Peru is as good a chance as we will get in most World Cups for a win, hopefully we can deliver.

I think we have a chance against the danes.

They last played in the 2010 wc, so the high of playing their first game against peru which will likely be reasonably open may be hard to recover from mentally abd back it up against a compact australian side.

Similar situation for peru, the final game is a great time to play them if we cab out them under pressure, south american teams are sterotypically mentally soft under pressure against a stubborn opponent.

Against any of these countries with nil all scoreline at 75 minutes with an unknown arzani coming on i suppose anything could happen.

Our main hope is to frustrate and pret for late cahill or arzani magic i think, i dont expect to get out the group but ill be dissapointed not to see the trademark aussie spirit

Yes, we looked disjointed however lately we seem to be getting results against decent opposition despite not playing our best. That is not a bad thing.

We need to come out of the blocks against France, though.

There still seems to be, from the outside maybe not in BVM's mind, doubt over who should start in the midfield, up front and whether Arzani or Kruse should start.

Three of Jedinak, Mooy, Rogic, Luongo and Irvine, difficult to choose because no trio is going to be anywhere near as good as France midfield of probably N'Kante, Matuidi and Pogba. Jedinak needs to start in my view but he needs to have a good day with his passing.

Nabbout does not impress me as a striker, I don't think he will get a look in against France but Juric has been injured and is nothing special either. Cahill was looking to get into a position to score off Irvine's ball which ended in the own goal but he surely does not have 90 minutes in him.

I would start Kruse and perhaps, depending on the game situation, bring Arzani on later.

I agree that it is likely to be bit of a risk starting Arzani. If he is to start, better against Denmark.

Keep arzani on the bench.

He probably deserves to start but he is still a kid and a tough game against france could demolish his confidence.

As long as he has that youthful confidence the socceroos have an X factor
