Group B VAR shambles.
That second Spain goal was strange.

VAR is an absolute lottery!
How did ronaldo put his elbow through the back of a player and only recieve a yellow. I cant help but wonder if a lesser known player did that would they have been given a red?

No doubt the subject to a debate or two. A pity Iran hit the side-netting right at the end. They would have topped the group had it gone in.Group B VAR shambles.

Re: 2018 World Cup
I don't think it is even a yellow card to Ronaldo, the Iranian defender is clearly trying to block Ronaldo running towards the goalkeeper and initiates the contact. Ronaldo could not avoid there being some contact and he just did what he needed to do to get past the defender. He seemed to have made some accidental contact with the Iranians face so a foul, nothing more.VAR is an absolute lottery!

What is interesting is it was stated that in the A-league it was stated yellow cards could not be given by VAR, only red cards. However this is at least the second yellow card to be given after the VAR has considered whether a red card should be given. There have also been yellow cards given for VAR awarded penalties, I am not sure that happened either in the A-league, anyone know?

Interesting read for those of you living overseas wondering how far Australias cultural perceptions have changed and how it manifests in football.
I think most of the criticism is coming from the “every 4 years” football fan wo beleives their one overseas trip to bali means they have seen the world.
Heaven forbid we actually try to say peoples names correctly!
I remember the outrage last world cup when people couldnt understand James Rodríguez being pronounced the spanish way “hamez” but what do we expect when professional commentators continually insist in calling cirio as sirio in the aleague.

Perhaps Germany should have selected Sane.

South Korea 2-0 Germany
Fantastic result!
I don't think Sane would have helped them.
They have problems that run deeper than just one player.
They needed a change from the top.
Anyway, we loved it here.

Sweden topping the group is something of a surprise as well. Good luck to them as they take on the Swiss.

https://www.foxsports.com.au/football/a ... 1530164403What has happened and transpired since I left the position shows me my instincts were right. We still want to be the underdog. We want everyone to know that eight times out of ten we will be beaten by the very best, but that does not mean we can’t knock them off. After all we are Australians and we fear no one.”

Re: 2018 World Cup
Awful article. Confused and emotional. Didn’t address the tangible things that need to happen to move our game forward.

Re: 2018 World Cup
How so?
I feel ange explained himself now that the world cup was over.
He was hired to lead a cultural and tactical revolution the same way he did in the aleague.
When the going got tough pressure from the top to revert back to baseline came.
I think many who have been following the game long enough assumed this was the likely narrative
The fact that he is not directly pointing the finger and naming names shows its about australia for him and not personal agenda.
