Oh also , if we had 2 more sainburys at the back then our back three would be imposing , ball playing cb is needed in this formation
For that reason I'd like to see Milligan drop back to a CB role. It would still leave us one ball-playing CB short however it would be better than what we have at the moment. Jeggo could slip into the DM role alongside Mooy.

Goodwin would have thrived in this formation, not sure why he wasn't selected.

Milligan and Dylan McGowan alongside Sainsbury is worth trying. I doubt Dylan will be great but it is better than continuing to play proven failures like Degenek, Wright and Ryan McGowan.

It is also worth playing Jeggo at DM to see how he would go.

20 minutes left, 1-1 we absolutely turned up to play today.

The lack of quality infront of goal is the difference though, sainsbury, mclaren and kruse all should have at very least hit the target for their chances.

So much better than the crap the team served up against Germany and Cameroon. Key being so much more pace and energy in the middle and Milligan being alongside Sainsbury stabilised the defence. Ryan McGowan was better than Wright and Degenek have been as well.

No Rogic.

Very classy skills but always thought he didn't have the engine for our high pressure game.

Maybe tonight proves that?

I thought our second half effort against germany was just as good as our 90 minutes against chile.

Going forward we have some players who are starting to blossom at club and country. Irvine, Mooy, Rogic, Luongo and juric are going to be vital for us for qualification and potentially the world cup.

Why did we wait till the last game to step up and play?

Troisi was very busy and showed his class with that well taken finish.

Inconsistent. There's some good players in the NT setup but they just don't perform every game and it never seems to be when it counts!

Being half glass empty:

Another lot of games with some promise but no result.

Been the story of our second phase of qualifying.

It might just be that this is where Australian football is at, however I think we can do better.

He's got a "chip on his shoulder", that's for sure.

It's as if we have been "treading water" since winning the Asian title.

Yes, I also don't understand why Goodwin did not make the final squad.
But I'm sure he and Jeggo are two for the future as long as they continue to play regularly for their respective clubs.

Goodwin was hardly playing by the end of the season, he had lost his place in the starting XI on the LW, and his only starts towards the end of the season were 2 as a fill in at LB. So it seems he was not really playing that well. He did have a great second half in the last game of the season but he came on at half time after not starting. Hopefully next season he will maintain a starting spot but if he doesn't then it is quite understandable that he is not selected for the Socceroos.

I think he is a better player than Behich, who was terrible against Germany and Chile, and if Smith continues to not play then there is a spot for him. Gersbach though should be the first choice after how he played against Cameroon.

Germany tore Mexico apart today. Mexico conceded two very early and looked to be getting back into the game, however after half time normal service resumed. 4-1 in the end, with all of Germany's goals from inside the box in open play......and this with their 'B' team.
