The Road to Russia 2018
We said the same about Thailand. We will thrash Honduras in Sydney, they are an awful side.
Regardless of how well we seemed to play tonight, we just can’t score.
Hopefully it’s not our undoing, but you can’t win games without putting the ball in the back of the net.

Yeah that's it really. If the lads are able to take an early chance and then don't take their foot off the peddle. This SHOULD be a done deal.We said the same about Thailand. We will thrash Honduras in Sydney, they are an awful side.

Sadly I can't recall a game for some time where the side took every chance they were offered.
Personally I was very happy with how we lined up. I'd probably only replace Risdon with Leckie for the home leg. Everyone else deserves to keep their spot.
Then depending on the scoreline Timmy would come on for Juric, Rogic or Troisi on for Irvine and Jeggo on because I want to see him!

doesn’t a 0-0 1st leg cancel out the away goal rule...Would have preferred a 1-1 draw over a nil all draw.
The away goal rule will be dangerous as honduras only need to draw in sydney ( assuming they score )
or am I living in an alternate reality ?

Because Honduras sounds a little more exotic we seem to expect so much out of them, yet we totally down play countries in our own confederation who take the game to us saying that we let them in and the socceroos are rubbish.
Its a bit off topic but i think this game highlighted just how tough asia is. Every country in our final asian group showed more actual football than honduras ( bad pitch or not ).
Remember thes guys finished 4th and Usa was below them.

Agree in part. Asia is tough with travel, conditions, refs etc.Because Honduras sounds a little more exotic we seem to expect so much out of them, yet we totally down play countries in our own confederation who take the game to us saying that we let them in and the socceroos are rubbish.

However, these guys should have comfortably finished second bottom but USA stuffed up majorly. They should not even be playing for a play-off spot.
They had something like a -6 goal difference (just better than T&T in last) and only got a handful of points away from home.

Its a slippery slope when we make concessions like that because if, buts and maybes could have had us qualifying directly but we didnt just as USA failed to qualify.Agree in part. Even if honduras finished 6th id be very confident in saying the top 6 asian sides could “out football” them regardless of winning and losing.
The only thing asia lacks is the truly world class stars.
My point is asia is possibly ahead of africa and central american confederations in terms of depth and overall quality. Its a shame that the general public still cannot respect the strength of asia.

Back to the game.
If fit, i feel jedinak needs to start. He was an absolute brick wall and served the other mids very well.
Luongo was the right decision over rogic given the pitch abd hopefully rogic comes in fresh for sydney.
We cant play risdon , he is our weak link and they will plan to expose him if he plays.
Juric is turning into a very creative striker

You go to the UK and it's the same. Anyone outside of the big nations is barely rated. Although once England struggle with a result against someone like Bosnia their tune changes for a time.

Good to see Leckie back, though still think we look more balanced & composed with attack minded full-backs in the wing-back positions.
