Looks like we don't have to worry about facing Japan, Syria just knocked them out of the tournament with a game to go. To be fair, apart from Meshino at Hearts the rest of the squad are domestic so a rather more potent side will line-up at the Olympics.

Same fate for China courtesy of Uzbekistan.

Iran are out on goal difference with the Uzbeks proceeding.

We have Syria on the 18th. I hope we find our mojo soon as we have been riding our luck.

Toure scored the winner against Syria in extra-time. We are into the Quarterfinals.

Still a chance to make the Olympics if we win the 3rd place playoff?

Yes, it is either us or the Uzbeks.

The Olyroos' midfield desperately need McGree and Arzani. D'Arrigo wouldn't go astray either.

They have to put their thinking caps on and hope they find a football brain somewhere because they showed nichts, nada, nothing against Korea.

Great outcome.

Will be interesting to see how we go with D'Arrigo, McGree and Arzani back in the squad.
Should make a big difference.

Yeah I find it a little sad that the squad that goes to the Olympics is often very different to the squad that got them there.
Obviously Arzani and McGree probably would have been involved if they weren't injured and suspended. I just hope they don't call up an overage fringe Socceroo like in 2008 when Archie Thompson took a kid's spot to be absolutely useless for us.
If someone like Mooy wanted to go, that's different. But generally I'd rather is just be an U23 side.

agree with this.

We are told the junior national teams are all about development and creating tomorrows champions and then we go and put overage players into key positions.

I hope Arnold will be bold enough to only play players of age.

Its going to be an interesting lead up to the Olympics. Players unable to take part in any training camps for obvious reasons may struggle. Especially if the club's they play for are playing completely alternative systems.

Nice to see Strain get a call up. He's got a pretty decent level of experience so I think he'll be of value.

Also nice to see these games will be broadcast!

Also it’s nice to see O’Doherty get a call up too.
