SO, back to back Olympic failures. By the time the 2020 Games come around in Tokyo, an entire generation will have missed out on competing on the Olympic stage.

Totally agree with everything Simon Hill is saying.
Put more attention on getting the HAL development squads up to scratch and spend more resources on keeping talent youth in the HAL longer.

I only saw the last 40 odd minutes but I was not really impressed with what I saw.

This would be the ideal job for Josep Gombau.

2-0 win first up against Brunei.
Nice to see Blackwood on the scoresheet.

They cruised through in the end with a 0-3 win over Myanmar, which also saw the hosts failing to qualify as one of the best second placed sides.

There were some lucky escapes though with Japan & Saudi nabbing the bottom two spots in the "best 2nd placed sides" and Iran and UAE both missing out.

This latest call for the Olyroos to be released over an extended non-FIFA period could hit us hardest of all the clubs.

I don't think it will hit us that hard unless Baba is out injured at the same time. Margush is more than a capable back up for Izzo and we can cover Garruccio very well.
CCM will struggle to cover Da Silva more than we should struggle to cover all three players combined. Hopefully we have Absalonsen and the Matmour replacement available in January which will improve the team anyway.

Good to see Blackwood score the opener against Syria.

Kamau has doubled our advantage.

2-0 just before HT.

Lovely own goal from Deng. Izzo didn't have a chance (though he was far better at denying the Syrians - a couple of top notch saves at the end).

Should have had a hat trick if Buhagiar passed it off near the end.

Pretty good result and performance first up.

We made 8 changes against Vietnam and paid for it as Vietnam parked the bus; the full double decker.

Towards the end some of the better players from the first game were brought back on and we looked far more dangerous but it was too little too late. 0-1 to Vietnam.

Now we need to win against South Korea to progress which is possibly if we start with Da Silva, Blackwood etc.

If they were serious about winning the thing why did they do something as stupid as making 8 changes?

Would have to be resting players due to the short turnaround and also with the SK game in mind.

Regardless of the changes, we should have won comfortably.
