I guess that's what happens when you limp into the round of 16 and come up against the defending champs.Well what happened there. 6-0....

Re: Australian U17s - Joeys
It was the group of death so making it out at all was impressive. The lads played well for the most part against Argentina and could have taken the points against Mexico so I don't really think they limped out of the group.I guess that's what happens when you limp into the round of 16 and come up against the defending champs.Well what happened there. 6-0....

Re: Australian U17s - Joeys
So Nigeria ended up winning the tournament. So the lads got knocked out by the winners.
IMO a pretty positive showing from the Joeys that they defeated Argentina and drew with Mexico who ended up coming 4th.

The AFF U16 Championship kicked off the other day.
The Joey's kicked off the tournament with a 1-1 draw to Myanmar.
Last night they lost 3-0 to Vietnam. Very concerning results.

We struggled against the Phnom Penh Crown Academy boys as well....though they do live and play together 24-7.The AFF U16 Championship kicked off the other day.

So does the majority of the Joeys squad. Most of them are from the FFA CoE. I wonder if this will be any sort of a wake up call that that CoE is failing. We struggled against the Phnom Penh Crown Academy boys as well....though they do live and play together 24-7.The AFF U16 Championship kicked off the other day.

Its time to strap it IMO. Split up that funding and offer it to the HAL sides to create local CoE themselves.
There a few HAL clubs have junior set ups already.

Fair enough. I think it's useful for the kids to get the complacency kicked out of them early. The AFF is good for that.So does the majority of the Joeys squad. Most of them are from the FFA CoE. I wonder if this will be any sort of a wake up call that that CoE is failing.

The reality is that SE Asia produces some great kids however the governance in the leagues above (often there only being one or two) lets them down regarding their development. Part of Thailand's rise has been from the efforts of a limited number of clubs who have overcome these governance constraints.

Re: Australian U17s - Joeys
That said, I am not a fan of the COE as kids develop at different paces and the COE tends to catch kids who are superstars at an early age which has proven to be a terribly unreliable indicator of future performance.

6-2 against Singapore. The last game is against Malaysia who need to win to knock us out. Vietnam are guaranteed to go through top of the group.
Our squad depth and fitness is an advantage with the format of a game every two days.

Re: Australian U17s - Joeys
I am watching the Malaysia game via Youtube at the moment and we are killing Malaysia but not really playing nice football. We are basically out running and muscling them when we should be slowing the pace down and pulling them apart technically (at the very least to save our legs for the Thailand game - we're already up 6-1 FFS).
We need Gumby, now.

Injury time equaliser to make it 3-3 for the Australians. 5-3 in the shootout. Now a re-match with Vietnam in the final.
