Brazil through to the quarters on penalties against a great Chile who came within a post's thickness from winning the game in the last minute of extra time.

And a fantastic Colombia deftly deal with Uruguay 2-0 with two excellent goals from the irrepressible James Rodríguez.

Colombia is the South American team Brazil wish they were...

Imagine if Chile's final shot did go in. Wow.

Those protests going on against the Cup in Brasil would have intensified and possibly turned into riots.

I understand what Suarez did was wrong and against the spirit of the game. But it did not even draw blood.

To me the tackle made by the Italians that resulted in a straight ( knee high and practically stomping at the knee ) was far more reckless and dangerous then a love bite.

I felt the way the Italians approached the game was more grubby then anything dished up by Uruguay.

Not defending Suarez but i think the Italians are very happy to let the focus fall on Suarez for this game as their attitude and effort was piss poor IMO

Tackling is at least in the normal conduct of the game. Sure it can be aggressive and reckless at times but using your teeth is never part of the game and nor should it be.

Given his priors, I think it's fair.

Video from the Argentine dressing room sing-song after the win against the Swiss.

http://as.com/videos/2014/07/02/portada ... 88069.html

But it's not about hurricanes a blowin' or rivers over flowin'. The lyrics, beginning "Brasil decime qué se siente", bait the host country. "Maradona is better than Pelé", "You've been crying since we beat you at Italia 90", that sort of thing.

Neuer will surely take home the Golden Glove after his performance against France. Germany win 1-0 and advance. BYE France.

I heard last night Neymar is a chance of playing the final if Brasil qualify by jacking him up on painkillers.

The Germany manager, Joachim Löw, has called on the Mexican referee Marco Rodríguez to clamp down on the “brutal and crude” challenges that marred Brazil’s quarter-final success against Colombia and left Neymar with a back injury.
Brazil committed 31 fouls in that fixture, with Colombia contributing 23,
