So I guess Mabil's documents didn't get sorted in time? Wasn't he supposed to be in the squad?

Sounds like it. Considering how he's been play surely he'd make the squad. Very sad situation.

Korea had a surprise draw with Jordan, UAE & Syria also had a draw. North Korea beat Yemen and Oman thumped Myanmar, no surprises there.

We play tonight against Kuwait. I really hope we hammer them as the Kuwait FA was, and possibly remains, the most vocal opponent to Australia's inclusion in the AFC.

Incidentally for those who do not know we are in the toughest group with Japan, Iran & Kuwait. A preview is available here: http://www.the-afc.com/en/tournaments/m ... eview.html

Sounds like we could have played better and the game was pretty even. Considering this should in theory be our easiest game it doesn't fill me with confidence but maybe this win will spur us on next match when we play Iran tomorrow night. One thing I don't like about these tournaments is the quick turn around for games. Sure the player's clubs want this to be over quickly three games in 6 days is tough on the players. I'm gonna presume will see a very different line up next match.

Good to see Ikonomidis get a run in the green and gold finally, amazed Lazio let him go for such a nothing tournament TBH.

Apparently viddie said kitto was a different player after the goal in regards to confidence. Fantastic for AUFC.

Seems John Hall did himself proud also. I did not realise john hall was that good ? i suppose its hard to get his name in the headlines competing with euge and Izzo.

What is it with Aufc and promising keepers?

Huge, Izzo, Hall, Birra

The Olyroos have claimed top spot of Group C and a quarter finals berth at the AFC U-22 Championship following a 1-0 victory over I.R. Iran at Royal Police Stadium in Muscat last night.

The only goal of the match came from Peter Skapetis who latched on to a loose ball in the 56th minute and fired home after Iranian goalkeeper Ali Reza Beiranvand could only parry defender Curtis Good’s header from a corner

Woohoo! Sounds like a similar game to the Kuwait game. Hopefully we knock Japan off as I would rather not face them again this tournament. But since Japan could only draw with Kuwait. Japan getting thru is up in the air still.
At this stage it is likely we will play the winner of the Group D clash between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia is the quarters.

So JBD the only Red to get a run (off the bench for the last 10 mins). Kitto and Hall benched.

I guess with tournaments like this, it's important to rotate the squad with so many games in a short space of time.

Good to see that we are at least getting results in some young Socceroos games. It wasn't that long ago that we couldn't even score!

At this level, results are probably just as important as the style as it breeds confidence.
