I'm all on board for the FFA hate but we were supposed to have a friendly against Iran here at AO before the Asian Cup but they pulled out. It's likely we'll get at least one "decent" WCQ here at AO. If we also get Kyrgyzstan at Hindmarsh in the current phase I'd be ok with that too.

Considering the rave reviews AO has been getting lately and its clear intent to promote itself as a true multi-purpose stadium I have high hopes of the Socceroos playing there in the near future.

Everyone uses this term "multipurpose" to describe AO but it doesn't have any additional seating arrangements to allow rectangular pitched games to be played there properly.

By their definition, every oval in the country is "multi purpose".

Hopefully something like this could happen in the future?

If multiple games are scheduled then the pitch could be slide down towards the Southern stand and a temporary stand could be built over the hill and pitch.

From what I hear though the heritage listing on the hill and scoreboard is only 20 years. Once that has expired maybe something re-configurable could be built permanently on the hill.

I don't doubt that something could be done and then it would legitimately be a "multipurpose" stadium.

But until then I don't see how it is different to any other oval in the country with regard to rectangular pitches.

Don't get me wrong, great stadium - but hardly "multi-purpose".
