Socceroos v Brazil - Sep 7

Postby EdDog Thu Aug 08, 2013 2:18 pm

So we are playing Brazil away on Election Day.

Should be good to see how we compare to the best in the world.

Last time we played them in Germany '06 we fought valiantly and lost 2-0.

Sadly, we are a ghost of that great Roos team.

Thoughts?

Given their recent form I wouldn't mind seeing Leckie and Langerak given a start. I'd also like to see Herd given a run as well as Lowry at LB. Hopefully Rogic is fit.

-----------Leckie-----------
Oar----------Rogic-----Kruse
-----Milligan--Jedinak-----
Lowry--Neill--McGowan--Wilkshire
---------Langerak----------

I could live with that.

Good question. Brazil have basically named a full strength squad which is fantastic.

Will be a great challenge for whoever makes our side.

Playing like a team that knows they can lose 10 - 0 and not suffer any criticism.

If that's how we fare in a friendly, then imagine the group stages of the World Cup :O

It was actually embarrassing to watch. Cannot take any positive from the match at all.

Lets not forget they had 2 legitimate goals incorrectly ruled offside. Was a bloodbath.

What's happened to Holman? Even when he was bad at everything he was still winning the ball and providing options. Now all he does is stand still and wave his arms around.

Why are we surprised or shocked and why are people calling for Holgers head?

We currently have very few players in the socceroos who are either in season and getting regular time. These players are in sub par leagues around the world or the ones who are in stronger league cannot get any match time.

This is what happens when you play against a world class outfit of players who represent the biggest clubs in the world every week.

Why is this holgers fault?

Im fairly sure many moons ago our golden generation lost 6-0 to brazil with Romario and Ronaldinho. So it should be of no shock when a bits and bobs roos squad in a longterm transition has a similar scoreline surely ?

We will not be seeing products of our new system of coaching reaching top level until atleast next world cup.

Honestly i did not see the match but i can imagine how woeful we probably played.

The biggest problem i think is as a country we like to think we are always a big fish in a big pond, wake up australia! we are tadpoles in a freaking puddle! lol

I remember the pregame discussion to Australia vs Brazil in 2006 alluded to the fact that Brazil had 4 attacking players in their starting XI who contributed nothing defensively and that this was a potential weakness.

2013: Australia line up with Kennedy, Kruse, Oar and Holman.

I think there are more than 11 decent Aussie's getting solid game time around the world yet Holger doesn't pick them. To me, the conditioning of our players is Holger's fault as he's picking unfit players. Not only that, but playing several out of position.

And having McKay at LB is such a cop out. Sure he was industrious for Roar in MIDFIELD but this is LB yet he still persists. I know we are short on left backs but how about trying to play a few actual left backs? We have some options in the A-League who would be far better than McKay at LB. Hopefully Traore gets nationalised in time.

Of course you can't expect us to go out there and dominate Brazil but show a bit of fight, have a few flourishes at goal and try to take the game to them. We looked like we had conceded from the first blow of the whistle.
