Socceroos v Scotland

Postby Stuckey Wed Aug 08, 2012 5:29 pm

The full squad is:
Mark Bresciano, Alex Brosque, David Carney, Jason Davidson, Adam Federici, Chris Herd, Brett Holman, Mile Jedinak, Neil Kilkenny, Robbie Kruse, Mitch Langerak, Scott McDonald, Ryan McGowan, Lucas Neill, Sasa Ognenovski, Mark Schwarzer, Archie Thompson, Carl Valeri, Luke Wilkshire, Rhys Williams.

Not a terrible squad except for the usuals. Starting to get the feeling Neill needs to be moved on. The bloke is 33 and can't even hold down a contract in Qatar. Surely there are more deserving players?

Still devo about this match though. I'll be in Edinburgh this weekend but can't stay to see them. :(

Yeah for me with Holger it seems like 2 steps forward and one step backwards - but the step backwards is a big f*cking step backwards (Archie). I can handle him beig picked for friendlies but he should never be near a squad for a real competition.

Ange has a big responsibility at MV this year and that's relegating Archie to the bench and doing Australia massive favour - surely if he's not playing at MV he won't make the Roos squad.

Good to see Herd & McGowan get picked - hopefully they get some game time.

Glad North isn't there and happy for Macca to get another shot in a friendly.

I am hoping Davidson gets a run at Left Back and I would still like to see Williams have a run at CB.

Incidentally he has just been declared Captain of Middlesborough which is rather nice.

I agree I understand everyone saying the young kids need to earn their place you can't just pick someone because they have potential. But these kids are mostly playing in Europe and getting some game time. Where as Archie is getting picked on the back on just training with MV. How the f$%k is that earning your place? Same can be said IMO from Kruse. The kid has played more times in the past 18 months for the socceroos then he has for his club?
Mainwhile we have Troisi getting signed for Juve, Williams becoming captain of his club. Both struggle to get picked regularly. Herd sure got picked the last two squads but go injured. But he's been playing regular EPL for two years now. If OS Aussies website is anything to go by we have loads of other kids in Italy, Spain, UK and elsewhere being almost ingnored.
I just get the feeling Holger and the FFA have one goal. Make the WC at any cost to reap the financial rewards that come with it. Youth development just doesn't appear to be a priority at all ATM.

Uefa Europa League appears to be a lower standard then MV training as well, I notice Steven Luštica came on as a sub for Hajduk Split in their game against Inter Milan.

Bres! What! A! Goal! Unbelieveable!

Can't find why Herd isn't in the squad. Briefly mentioned on Twitter that he pulled out due to an 'injury' I guess the EPL season does kick off in two days. Pity though...

Yah Herd pulled out a few days ago with injury.

Glad I didn't get up for this one. Feel for Davidson - horrid debut.

Nice goal by Bresc.
