Socceroos vs Saudi Arabia

Postby blahblah Thu Jan 19, 2012 9:54 am

It is a dead rubber however it is also a chance to test some talent based around the region.

So who do we expect from the A-League to get a look in?

Eugene for me :D

I hope Australia take this match seriously. Surely it's not worth the risk to have Saudi Arabia advance, then get their shit back together, thus adding another strong team to the draw.

I'd like to see us bundle them out so Thailand have a chance to make it to the final round B)

I really hope to see some young guns get time. Chris Herd, Ryan Williams, Rhys Williams, Shane Lowry, Brad Inman, Nathan Burns, Ruka and others. Especially players who are at risk of going to other countries. Well need to lock these kids in or risk losing them forever.

Not all of them though, you want a mix of the old and the new. We still have a few days to go so injuries may be as much as a deciding factor as anything (such as Herd just coming back).

I'd like to see Luke Devere given a run however he is out of season so I don't expect to see him. Lowry might be a good choice for the LB position.

The player I really want to see given a start is James Troisi. He is on fire in Turkey.

The Saudi squad was announced and it seems their star player, midfielder Mohammed Noor, is out injured.

I'm not sure if this list will make sense to anyone however here it is:

Goalkeepers: Hassan Al Otaibi (Al Hilal), Waleed Abdullah (Al Shabab), Yasser Al Mosailem (Al Ahli), Ahmed Al Kassar (Al Raed)
Defenders: Osama Hawsawi (Al Hilal), Kamel Al Mousa (Al Ahli), Abdullah Al Zori (Al Hilal), Kamal Al Mor (Al Ahli), Sayyaf Al Beeshi (Al Ettifaq), Mohammed Eed (Al Nasr), Yasser Al Shahrani (Al Qadisiya), Hassan Mouath (Al Shabab)
Midfielders: Saud Kariri (Al Ittihad), Ahmed Al Fraidi (Al Hilal), Moataz Al Musa (Al Ahli), Mohammed Al Shalhoub (Al Hilal), Abdullaziz Al Dosari (Al Hilal), Nawaf Al Abed (Al Hilal), Salem Al Dosari (Al Hilal), Taisir Al Jassim (Al Ahli), Yayhya Al Shehri (Al Ettifaq), Ahmed Otaif (Al Shabab)
Strikers: Naif Hazazi (Al Ittihad), Nasser Al Shamrani (Al Shabab), Yasser Al Qahtani (Al Ain), Yousef Al Salem (Al Ettifaq)

I wouldn't mind Harry playing as we need some cool heads out there, however I would like to see him drop deeper into the controlling midfielder role which we have seemed to struggle with ever since Culina was injured. Let him use his experience to dictate play, calm things down in midfield etc.

Mark Bresciano, Alex Brosque, Nicky Carle, David Carney, Brett Emerton, Harry Kewell, Michael Marrone, Mark Milligan, Lucas Neill (capt), Jade North, Sasa Ognenovski, Erik Paartalu, Matthew Ryan, Adam Sarota, Mark Schwarzer, Matthew Spiranovic, Michael Thwaite, Archie Thompson, James Troisi.
Not a bad squad. Can't believe Chris Herd isn't in it. I hope he is injured otherwise Holger just must not rate people playing regularly in the EPL.

Chris is injured that explains his non-selection.
I hope Holger hops to it with him though apparently his old man is keen on him playing for Scotland. But he is keen to play for Aus.
