Re: Socceroos to play in SA
But who apart from those in the football community is going to be interested in an underage tournament? We had an entire tournament featuring the senior squad also in Adelaide back in 2004 and how many people went to those games? We averaged about 4.5k (and that was boosted by a bumper crowd of about 12,000 against NZ).
And that featured players like Aloisi, Cahill, Lazaridis, Emerton, Skoko, Bresciano & Grella...

Re: Socceroos to play in SA
A lot has changed in those 7 years. We used to get crap crowds everywhere. I remember a tornament between us a Paraguay in the early 2000's that barely got 25,000 to the three matches. But who apart from those in the football community is going to be interested in an underage tournament? Re: Socceroos to play in SA
Yes that is true, but my point is still that no one outside of the football community is going to be interested.

Would depend on how it was marketed...

I agree. If they treated it like an A-league had line ups in the paper and what not, I wouldn't be surprised with 7,000-8,000 for an u23 match.Would depend on how it was marketed...

If we secured something like that, we would need to ensure that everyone and everything related to football and promotion (clubs, Advertiser, news programs, etc.) embraced it and made a big enough deal out of it that we are all aware of these games.
State Government would have to chip in with the embracing/promotion, too; they can't take it for granted or we'll just be saacrificing our hosting rights again.

Socceroos to play in Adelaide?
Maybe not.
And our very own General Ashnak makes his feelings known in the Comments...
Maybe not.
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/gov ... 6025733224SOUTH Australia's hopes of hosting a Socceroos clash at Adelaide Oval in June is still up in the air.
And Football Federation Australia has been accused of failing to deliver the concrete proposal before State Government officials to consider hosting big game.
FFA officials last night said the South Australia Cricket Association had been given match details 11 days ago.
However, SACA officials stated FFA had not provided a final contract for the proposed Oval clash.
SA Minister for Sport Tom Kenyon confirmed negotiations were well under way for Adelaide Oval to host the Socceroos for the first time in more than 50 years. But he said the State Government wouldn't be writing blank cheques just to lure the June event to Adelaide.

I have absolutely zero confidence that the Socceroos are going to play in Adelaide any time in the near future. After all they became the Eastern Seaboard Football Team rather than the Australian National Football Team quite some time ago.

Re: Socceroos to play in SA
So we've lost the Serbia match to Melbourne due to our lack of decent stadia. Now we're gunning for Chile and apparently the agreement is sitting on Events SA's desk wait. God this is so typical SA!

Re: Socceroos to play in SA
I have sadly said from the begining that our chances of actually getting the Socceroos here are pretty close to zero.

Adelaide = Pissant Town.
This sort of stuff confirms it.

I stand by my suggestion.

Re: Socceroos to play in SA
People need to get off their arses before they can walk! Something Events SA doesn't appear to be doing.I stand by my suggestion.
We shouldn't be trying to run before we can walk.
The thing that pisses me off most is this game requires around $1 million dollars investment. How much money do we waste year in year out on those BS SA great or now re-branded Avantage SA ads.
Why spend money lying about how 'great' SA is, how about spend the money MAKING SA great! Or is all the money SA is willing to spend on international events spent during the month of March?
