Personally I think the A-League standard is a lot higher than people give credit for.

I think you could make a starting 11 out of the best A-League players and they would do surprisingly well.
We tried that and they failed miserably. The players just weren't capable of performing as a team.

However, with the new influx of players and others stepping up a considerable notch within the last year, both technically and tactically, it's definitely worth trying again.

Also the Aleagueroos that Pim put on the park together all played at different levels. In all it was a stupid group and came undone despite playing quite well considering the circumstances.

There are some fantastic players in the A-League, of that there is no doubt. An-League first XI would probably be a very good team. It's the other end of the spectrum that brings the overall level down.

Will get better though with time.

^^ Ah OK, I read it as though davidbloop was talking about the quality of the league overall. An A-League based Socceroos squad though isn't really the best XI in the league.

Forgot we were in a National Team thread.

So who's going to 'make it'? Do we have another golden generation coming through any time soon? I reckon there is a lot of talent around under the age of about 25...

just off the top of my head we have:
Leckie, Burns, Kruse, Amini, Oar, Sarota, Zullo, Djite, Kantarovski, Inman, McGowan, Langerak, Ryan, Birighitti, Holland, Kilkenny, R Williams, D Williams, Mullen, Cernak, Antonis, Spiranovic, De Vere, Vidosic, Bozanic, Bulut, McGrath (not that I'd heard of him before this week)..

That's pretty bloody good, all of those guys are playing at A-League level or higher.. and no doubt there are heaps of players that I have forgotten about or never heard of..

From all that potential I guess it's hard to tell who will end up holding down spots at decent clubs, but I think the future of Aus football looks pretty bright.. especially bearing in mind that most of those kids have spent a bit of time in the A-League
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

In the short term I would love to see us line up with this in a game:

Kruse - Holman
Ruka - Amini - McKay - Leckie
Rose - Og - Spira - Wilkshire
Goalkeeper (whoever is in form)

Yummy!

Probably Schwarzer. That guy will be going until he's 62.

I'd probably change that around a bit to become a 4-3-3. But then it would also require personnel changes. I just think that that line-up wouldn't be fantastic in defence or just a bit too width-dependent.

Yeah i wished we blooded a few more young guns the other night. I guess being 2-1 v Germany probably isn't the time to do it but with players like Innman and Dean Bouzanis i'd like to see them tied to us asap!

There is no point throwing them in simply because they are young and talented.

They need to earn it.

Instead what holger did having a larger training squad and introducing these youngers guys to the NT was a much better idea.

With holgers attitude that regardless of what league your in you have to perform, i think will encourage these younger kids to goto clubs where they will be starting 11 players or even stay in australia longer

I agree i just don't want them playing for another country. If we just put them on for a few minutes just to lock them in, then they can earn their spot!

I would only put it out as a totally experimental squad, and I would want it to play entirely on the counter as it would have just a ridiculous amount of pace up front.

I personally prefer 3-5-2 formations but Australia does not have the talent to pull that off.

Personally, i think playing for the socceroos is becoming a much better gig for a players career then it used to be.

-We now play regular friendlies against good opponents,

-Have a fairly good chance of qualifying for world cups.

-European clubs are now catching onto talent displayed in the Asian cup etc.

So i think you will see alot more of those players who can go one way or the other fall into our laps.

Though, if you had the next Messi who could also play for another large european country then i would say get him in NOW
