Probably would have been easier to list who isn't in the squad.

EDIT - I love AFC releases. They obviously have no idea which are surnames and which are christian names.

Also, interesting to see Ersan Gulum in there...

There is a lot of flexibility in there for Holger. Is he going to go safe hands, a mixed bag or future focus for his squad?

three things

1 I love the middle names of some players :D

2 where is James Trioisi?

3 how the hell does Archie '6 games in the last 12 months' Thompson get in. Someone at the FFA must have a serious boner for him. He's so shit!

FILIGA = Awesome

I don't think Eugene is going with 7 GK we may be alright. Schwartz, Fed & Jones.

I hope some a-leaguers (not Thompson) get a crack.

Well Thompson picked up an injury over the wkend, so no Asian Cup for him.

Also ruka and mcdonald scored for their respective teams on the weekend, should help both in making the final squad, especially for ruka, i really like this guy.

A few notable absentees however with a squad of 50 I'd assume this is because they are injured (Troisi, Lowry, Williams etc).

"Who shot the Sherrif" is probably in for Lowry, though I hope Davidson would get the nod in front of him (I've very little to base that upon when all is said and done). You'd also have to hope Burnsy gets a look in before Griffiths.

It is also good to see Herd and Kilkenny in the mix.

Josh Kennedy may be injured as he has been plagued with a back niggle all season and may require surgery.

I'd love to see Jason Davidson play in the senior green and gold sometime soon, but now's not the time. I've been keeping track of him at Pacos de Ferreira, but he hasn't actually played any games for them in the season.

He's technincally good (especially considering he's learning in Portugal and developed in Japan) and is actually a real life left back.
Also partly because his name has 'Alan Davidson' in it.

I'm pretty happy to see Burns and McKain in the squad and am hoping Spiranovic can do enough to get onto the pitch at some stage and show his wares.

I am a bit worried that we don't have sufficient pace in the backline though. Park Chu-Young's untimely injury may buy us some breathing room in that department at least. I had nightmares of him blistering past our centrebacks. Park Ji-Sung moving into the striker's role isn't much comfort, but at least he's a yard slower.

EDIT: oh, and before people ask, it's being reported that Gulum pulled out of the squad because he wants to play for Turkey.

I hope if he gets picked for Turkey that he isn't just capped and forgotten. Still, he's old enough to make his own decisions and it's not like the other left footed defender, Lowry, wasn't on Ireland's radar.... or the right footed defender Williams a part of Welsh plans. Or a young central defender whom Croatia was eyeing. When it comes to the national representation tussle for young defenders we've pretty well come out on top.

So Kruse gets Leckie's spot?

Happy to have Leckie for January, but it must be farken hard for him to watch a Sukha (cbf checking spelling, you know who I mean) team mate get what's essentially his place in the national side.
