Yeah totally agree on everything in your post.

The facts vs feelings part of course can be attributed to both sides during different eras of politics, its particularly prevelent currently on the fringe left but there are snowflakes everywhere.

Yeah with the franking credits I dont have a side just yet. With our aging population its going to cost the the country big time and get out of hand in refunding tax paid by companies whos shareholders do not have a taxable income. Something needs to be done but the current proposal is equally unfair to pull the floor out from those on the verge of retirement all of a sudden.

AFAIK Australia is the only country that refunds tax to non tax payers and im not sure how many countries allow citizens to park up to $1.5 million in an account relatively tax free. So retirees certainly already have things pretty damn good.

Ive found Liberals holy than thou defense of franking credits to be dishonest. They are fully aware its a growing issue that needs to be reformed which is why they capped super contributions to 1.5 million. I guess thats politics though.

I feel like the election results supports the idea that there are many people who are left leaning and want to vote for the left but are equally concerned about the overall direction the left is going. The trend world wide would support this given polls seem to consistently get it wrong with support for the left.

Lets all hope for some stability going forward and some action on climate change . Either way i think we can all agree there is a disconnect between all key players in politics and actuall public sentiment

Peter Dutton has confirmed that a plan to create new powers to spy on Australians – which sparked police raids at the centre of the press freedom row – is still on the table.

On Sunday the home affairs minister claimed it was “complete nonsense” that the government supported spying on Australians but, in the next breath, called for a “sensible discussion” about whether the Australian Signals Directorate should gain such powers, which he argued could help disrupt paedophile networks and stop cyber-attacks.

I'm not worried about it myself. They can read my lame emails any day. I've nothing to hide.
If it catches terrorists and breaks paedophile rings then I'm all for it.

I agree 7g it is very concerning!

However I equally do not trust any mainstream media organisations to adequately inform us what it happening
.
My concern is this is not a story of a bully government clamping down on our free press, I feel it is more a case of 2 powerful bullies fighting for supremacy.

Both the left and right sides of the media are talking about the need for a free media, the need to protect whistle blowers and the right to publish what is in the public interest... and i totally agree!

But where has this same media been in the defence if Julian Assange, who in 2011 won the countries highest honour that can be won for journalism ( the walklies award) in regards to his work with wikileaks.

I dont trust government or big media! We need to hit the reset button on both!
