AFLX at Hindmarsh stadium

One of the AFL's weird 7-a-side experiment will be played at Hindmarsh on February 15.

Adelaide United have a home game 2 days later. The games are only 20 minutes long, but there will be 7 of them.

Haven't they got enough bloody ovals to play on?
Two days before a home game, a bloody lightning carnival at Hindmarsh in the middle of the soccer season.
They are rubbing our faces in it and there is nothing we can do about it as we don't even have control over our home ground.

Why don't they just fark off.

AFLX has been created to provide us with the options to play a form of the game in places where oval grounds are limited and to showcase our game internationally at a point in the future," Dillon said.

I hate waking up to this crap...

They played an AFL game on Adelaide Oval less than 24 hours before the A-League grand final and it held up fine. Though I don't know if Hindmarsh is meant to take that sort of action

Say goodbye to the 'Marsh. Griffin's Marden ploy will now come back and bite him on the arse good and hard.

AFL will get the ground for free or for very little. And they will fill it. Media will crow about how they got a bigger crowd than AUFC etc etc.

Make no mistake, this is another shot in the AFL's strategy to wipe out everything they perceive as competition.

I actually can’t see this as being a big thing.

Serious AFL players won’t want to injure themselves for the season proper.

You’re right it will get better promo than the A-League but can’t imagine it being anything more than a fad.

This is a power play by the AFL for sure.

Sadly with the way our league is set up (franchises, central control, etc) it is highly unlikely that our teams will ever own their own stadiums ... and stadium owners will always go for the $ when there's the opportunity to shoehorn another event in.

We've been relatively lucky to date that there haven't been many other events using Hindmarsh but looks like the AFL have other ideas. As 7G said, they're rubbing our faces in it.

Anything that allows Hindmarsh more (hopefully decent) use is fine by me.
The only way it's going to get an upgrade is with more than just the 12 AU games played there a season.

Lets hope AFLX has a good first season, pollies are dumbed into upgrading Hindmarsh to keep the precious AFL fans happy and then it dies in the arse the following season when the novelty wears off!

Or they have a smashing time and decide to take over the place.
Something like this can go both ways Stuckey.

But surely it's up to our mickey mouse FFA to expand the league and get more games played at Hindmarsh.

Well the surface isn't at any risk at least.

Disgusting isn't it. I don't think I've ever seen Cooper's look this bad. To think it could be even worse on Saturday night!
