Eddie Betts
Another ugly incident from an individual. Port seem to be handling it well however the online response from some people shows just how far we have to go.
For all the crowd grief we have in the A-League at least this type of behaviour is absent.

Re: Eddie Betts
She is an embarrassment to South Australians everywhere, public ridicule and exile to Victoria is extremely harsh but fair in these circumstances.

Re: Eddie Betts
What she did was wrong no doubt ....no disgusting!
What has utterly shocked me is the anount of people who are defending here conceding it is wrong to throw something on the field but her actions were not rascist!
Throwing a banana at an indigenous man is absolutely rascist and the amount of people who believe this is not a rascist act only shows how ugly this country can be under the surface.
As blahblah mentioned port are handling it well. I get the feeling eddie betts is not addressing the issues directly ( only commenting on throwing object at players as dangerous and not talking about the rascial aspect ) as the afl crowd has marginalised adam goodes for speaking out on similar issues.

It's a disgraceful thing to see snd it's wonderful to see justice served.
Although it's quite amusing AFL people claiming that the story has been blown out of proportion. As a Football fan I can't imagine what that must feel like!

Not after calling him a monkey ...Is it possible to throw a banana at a black man and it not be racist?

Re: Eddie Betts
I understand what you are saying and intent is everything.
If your buddy is having a joke with you so you throw the nearest thing at him and it happens to be a banana well there is no intent to make a derogatory or hurtful statement, you just threw an object in jest.
It is still insensitive and a clumsy thing to do that is best avoided.
But realistically when has a banana ever been thrown at a coloured person out of anger and not meant as a racial insult ?

Re: Eddie Betts
In my opinion no. A precedent has been set in society that throwing a banana at a black man has a certain meaning. Is it possible to throw a banana at a black man and it not be racist?
Just like the swastika has meaning to other people (but obviously not to the same extent).
