FIFA 12

Postby Shane Sat Jun 11, 2011 9:44 pm

Just thought I'd start a thread discussing FIFA 12. Due to be released later this year (Most likely October/November), there are a few videos and review getting around.

It looks as though there are some nice additions, like a new defensive system, precision dribbling and ball-shielding, etc.

E3 2011: FIFA 12 Hands-on Preview

Every new FIFA game brings about some relatively subtle, yet generally welcome changes. However, the changes present in EA Sports’ latest offering, FIFA 12, are anything but subtle. Sure, the game still looks relatively unchanged from a visual perspective, but drop into a match with your favorite team, and you may think you are playing a completely new franchise. That may seem a bit extreme, but my time with the game during E3 proved one thing: EA Sports is trying very hard to revolutionize the soccer genre.

The match was Arsenal verse Chelsea, in a battle of two game journalists who happened to be veteran FIFA players. My opponent played as Chelsea and my Arsenal men seemed up for the challenge. By the second or third touch we both instantly noticed the improvements to both dribbling and defense. As he moved the ball into my defensive zone, I quickly held the X button to move my player into the all new contain position. EA Sports essentially replaced FIFA’s old overpowered press with a much more realistic contain system. You now put your player in a defensive position, and pick your moment to strike.

This new defensive system took us some time to understand, but it helps create a more authentic pacing. For instance, I trapped my opponent along the side lines and contained him until I found the perfect moment to lunge in for a strike—performed by simply tapping the analog stick. But you must be careful with your strike as FIFA 12’s precision dribbling makes shielding the ball incredibly easy. The fight for the ball has never been so much fun. Between the tight dribbling skills and the contain-style defense, FIFA 12 creates a completely new experience on and off the ball. I also found it incredibly important to not sprint as soon as I got the ball, which generally worked quite well in past FIFA games. In FIFA 12 it seems more important to calculate your movements and actions instead of trying to sprint by the defenders.

Cant wait its basically the only game i really play all year,

Really looking forward to the new improvements , i cant master any advanced dribbled on the hardest setting it just doesnt seem natural for me .so something thats more fluid would be great.

I like the idea of this contain engine, while defending i find it hard to press the computer back while they have the ball as positioning is just to hard

Thankfully, Luc from FIFA-Fuma.com has posted all the juicy details, including new menu layouts, “Impact zone” and improved AI. Sounds like an excellent start, but i’m sure we’ll hear a lot more in the coming weeks.

Below is Lucs post in full, please bear in mind it’s been translated from French to English.

Without further ado, and thanking all journalists working on the Official Playstation Magazine, here are the first details of FIFA 12:

* New camera will be noticeably closer to the ground,
* New menu interface that appear to be simpler and more ergonomic soft,
* Evolution and calculating actions in real time,
* Integration of Impact Zone, which should limit the number of contacts present in very crappy FIFA 11,
* New Vision IA game more developed that should influence the players’ passes,
* Re-balancing between attack and defense, as well as the players and the players more powerful techniques,
* New presentation of games that looks very inspired matches English
* Possibility of injury, type and other strains (ie without contact with the enemy) if abused too much of a player, especially late in the game,
* Location of injury if a player takes a nudge, it will touch the face. The AI will also keep track of the shot during the remainder of the match …
* Three new arenas,
* Coming soon …

Impact Zone: It is defined as the integration of new contact areas on the players. Hips, knees, etc. …

AI Vision Game: I understand it as an AI more human. Each player will have a more or less according to his abilities. The example given in the magazine, you have a player who sees Fabregas stand out before him and behind him. There will be more easier to find the path visible in his eyes. He will be careful now in the eyes of the player and thus its position rather than the human eye which directs.

So a big thank you to the Official Playstation magazine for all that information! Feel free to get the precious, there are some screenshots that are worth!

So there you have it. It would seem that a lot of the areas people have complaints with are getting attention. Let’s not forget that these are the first details to be released, there is a lot more to come yet.

FSB would like to say a huge thank you to Luc and FIFA-Fuma for letting us quote his post.

Console vs. PC

On 22nd June it was announced that FIFA 12 on PS3 and XBox 360 will have same engine, features and competitions as FIFA 12 on PC.

An "Ultimate Edition" of the game will be available through Game and Gamestation stores. It includes monthly Ultimate Team gold packs, each containing 12 items including players, contracts, stadiums, managers, staff, fitness, healing, footballs, kits and badges. Each pack contains one rare item, such as enhanced player attributes, longer contracts and the most coveted players.

You can pre-order Fifa12 with 3 pairs of DKNY boxers now at The Hut in the UK, and it'll cost you approx $56.

It will ship on release (so shipping could be a 2 week wait) and be the UK version but if that doesn't bother you it's a damn good deal.

IIRC you need to set up an account before adding it to your cart to secure Australia as your address. Trying to do it at checkout doesn't work for some reason. (A quick google should sort you either way).

Know what you mean,

Just when i think the game has passed its lifespan with me , i notice a new tactic or way of doing something i couldnt before.

Thats what i love about it, just like the real life game you always pick up on new ways of doing things / addictive

A small review from an editor at the Daily Telegraph (taken from Whirlpool Broadband Forums);

I played the demo last night at an EA Media Event at Star City Casino in Sydney. I'm a journalist for the Daily Tele.

The game is great. Probably the most simulated version of FIFA to date.

Secondary pressure is now R1 (PS3) and when you use it, the AI simply contains/jockeys the opponent, doesn't tackle.

The O button is now a third tackle option.

So there is X for conservative, Square for sliding and now O which is a mid range tackle.

Precision Dribbling is fantastic. R2 and L2 triggers is the normal Skilled Dribbling, R1 and L1 is the Precision Dribbling and boy is it good. Really encourages you to take on players in one on one situations. Combo with right stick to push the ball afterwards in new direction is awesome.

New swoop skill move is great too.

Overall, very impressed. You have to think about defending now, not just rely on AI. Time the tackles you must.

Menu's are great.

It feels like FIFA still, just a lot tighter.

There is an option to disable Tactical Defending and revert back to "Legendary Defending" which makes the game work like previous FIFA's.

I welcome any further questions you may have.
