Calling a domestic competition a "Champions League" is fucking hilarious.

They are talking about the top teams from different domestic competitions so I understand where they are coming from. But the SANFL would have to be the strongest ARF comp outside of the AFL.

It's fairly widely accepted that the SANFL is a stronger comp than the VFL. I'm not sure how it's measured, but it's not only a South Australian view.VFL?

Re: Foxtel powers national Champions League competition!
id like to know how it will fit in with the regular reason?
you cannot play 3 games in week with aussie rules its just to hard on the body, so where will they squeeze these games in?
will it be a home and away league? or will it all be played in melbourne? if so PASS.
For example is a SANFL team is playing at home, but playing at AO or AMMI stadium, IMO its charm has disapeared, these games need to be played at their traditional homes, that some clubs have played at for over a 100 years.
I know the AFL is cashed up, but WOW you would assume the afl will be playing the bulk of the teams travel expenses etc, thats alot of cash!
If this does take off, which i dont believe it will, i think it may be at the AFL's expense, more and more people are coming back to SANFL it represent old football, and not the very plastic feel the AFL now has.
In regard to sanfl and VFL, i thought SANFL was stronger as most victorian 2nd string players were playing in the AFL reserves, which only melbourne based clubs participate in

Was definitely the case before the AFL reserves comp was scrapped. Would have thought that may have changed now that most of the VFL sides (maybe all, not sure) have AFL affiliate sidesIt's fairly widely accepted that the SANFL is a stronger comp than the VFL. When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead. True Story.

Re: Foxtel powers national Champions League competition!
Actually the reason the SANFL is widely held as the second strongest comp is because the VFL teams essentially act as development squads for the Victorian AFL clubs and essentially have no identity of their own. Winning or losing is only a matter of pride, and the clubs are not very well supported. The WAFL is probably slightly better than the VFL as well.

The Roar is a good place to find out about this stuff if your interested, Mister Football is very knowledgable along with a fair number of other posters there (Mister Football also knows a lot about football, he is a supporter of Italian football as well as Australian and was a MVFC member before he sort of went... strange).
