I personally do not like this development at all.
I hope it gets smashed down quick smart.

European Super League: fan fury at plans for football breakaway ...

Perhaps once all this has shaken out, once the imminent threat of a breakaway European super league has been resolved one way or the other, football will find the time for a little reflection.

How we reached this point. How the game’s elite clubs managed to engineer a scenario in which a hostile takeover came to feel inevitable, even irresistible. How the world’s most popular sport managed to hand over so much of its power and wealth and influence to people who despise it.

It was only on Saturday morning that a senior executive of one of European football’s biggest clubs realised that the long-rumbling talks about the breakaway European Super League were suddenly – in his words – “about to go nuclear”.

Can't claim I like the idea at all.

Ironically part of the rationale offered is the losses big clubs are incurring due to high costs in their domestic leagues, however they are the very same clubs that drove player wage inflation that resulted in such losses. It's like the bank robber who complains there isn't enough money at the bank.

Interesting that Bayern Munich and PSG have both turned the idea down.

PSG's owners have a WC to think about ...

They have the 5o+1 rule in Germany which would make it very difficult for the Bavarian club.

Barcelona owe €1.3billion and Real Madrid owe €900million so it's less to "save Football" and more to save their own clubs.

Some thoughts ...

Kick them out of their domestic leagues and if they want to come back they start at the bottom.

Classic big business taking self interest all the way to the roll out stage only to finally be forced to listen to what the wider community has to say and realise their idea was terrible from the get go.

Your club is millions in debt? Well maybe stop all these secret international meetings and you'll save a buck or two! If you're looking for a decent business model, maybe take a leaf out of Burnley's book. Transfer budget of £750,000 and they're almost certainly safe in the EPL to fight for a 6th straight season.
