Johan Cruyff, football legend, dies at the age of 68.

Goodbye Johan Cruyff.
With his anticipation and acceleration, Cruyff seemed to own the entire field of play. Only nominally a centre-forward, he was both orchestrator and predator, at one moment collecting a rolled ball from his keeper to start a move – one arm pointing as he barked orders to his team-mates – and the next materialising at the other end in front of goal for the coup de grace.

We have Cruyff's influence at United through Amor.

Cruyff’s arrival sparked the change. “I had short lads like Albert Ferrer, Sergi or Guillermo Amor; players without
great physiques but who pampered the ball with their touch and pressed the opposition like rats,” he recalled. “Even Pep wasn’t all
that physically, but with the ball he was intelligent. That’s what I wanted.”

I dont mean to make this sad thread about Amor but IMO he is a true marquee. We are very lucky to have him in this country let alone adelaide.

Where would football be today without Cruyff when so many who have influenced the game learnt from him ?
Ppl who slap the label of truth on the 1st thing they hear, do it out of ignorance, convenience or cant be bothered picking through a thin layer of falsehood to find the real truth, or possibly even another lie

Johan Cruyff: ‘Maybe we were the real winners in 1974. The world remembers our team more’
http://www.theguardian.com/football/201 ... nald-mcrae
“Johan Cruyff was not scared of anything,” Txiki Begiristain recalls. The Dutchman’s players, on the other hand, were. At least to begin with, before he took them beyond fear. “When there are doubts, people tend to seek safety in numbers, to go with the herd,” Begiristain, the former Barcelona winger, says. “Not Cruyff. His first solution was always to be more attacking, more expansive. Three at the back and the centre-back is Ronald Koeman? Instead of full-backs, midfielders? Every time he sought a solution, he attacked more. And when he told us what he was doing, we thought: ‘Is he mad or what?’”
