The clean out has begun.
What we know so far...

Fifa are facing an unprecedented crisis on the eve of their congress in Zurich after Swiss authorities made early-morning arrests of six officials and opened separate criminal proceedings over the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

Officers carried out a dawn raid on the five star Baur au Lac hotel in Zurich and arrested a number of officials on corruption charges, including Fifa vice-president Jeffrey Webb from the Cayman Islands.

In a separate move, officers raided Fifa’s headquarters in Zurich, seized electronic data and opened criminal proceedings “against persons unknown on suspicion of criminal mismanagement and of money laundering in connection with the allocation of the 2018 and 2022 football World Cups,” said a statement from the Swiss attorney general.

Russia, quite well known for its corruption and oligarchs, killing off political opposition, media controlled by the kremlin, invasion of sovereign nations. Qatar, an oil rich nation, one of many gulf nations that basically practice modern day slave labour.

Accusing these two upstanding nations of corruption would be ludicrous.....

Glad to see they couldn't clean up the "paper trail" completely, FIFA needs to be exposed by something like this.

I was trying to figure which organisation was doing all the arrests, it seems all the press is paising the FBI and all but chanting USA USA USA.

It took 10 minutes to even come across anything about the swiss who seem to have cracked a fair piece of the puzzle without all the back slapping.

Still, surely this is just the tip of the iceberg and im sure these guys might get talkative about their buddies to save their own skin , we can only hope.

Russia and Qatar bids will be unravelled soon enough. People are talking about a revote but if things truly implode there may not even be a world cup for some time.

On the surface its great. But what happens from here is vital. I would hate to see countries break away from fifa and create their own governing bodies. The implications would be massive

To me the reaction of the USA to call the cops over the money that disappeared from their bid is important in how it compares to the FFA's "What missing money? oh that ? no big deal... no need to involve the police <_< >_>"

He's staying on til the end of the year apparently until this "extraordinary congress" is selected.

Seems to be a load of BS still.

I hope it's not a Blatter-esque attempt to buy time and let the heat dissipate. If he decides to hang on come December life could get very interesting.

Yeah I don't think this is the end of it by a long stretch.

Hope he hasnt made a deal with law enforcers to tell them everything so he walks free.

IMO it shouldn't be ling until they start squeeling on each other to save their skin and everything will unravel.

If this happens, i wonder if the russian and qatar world cups will still go ahead
