Floods hit World Cup host city of Curitiba in southern Brazil
June 10, 2014

SAO PAULO: Brazilian authorities say floods have driven close to 13,000 people from their homes in the southern state of Parana.

The state's civil defence department says in a statement that floods have hit 132 cities, including the state capital of Curitiba, a World Cup host city.

It was unclear if the floods affected Arena da Baixada stadium, which will host the first of four games on Monday. The World Cup Organizing Committee did not immediately respond to a request for information.

At least nine people have been killed by the floods and 30 injured, the civil defense department said.

Associated Press
"Curitiba picked up over 6 inches of rain in 48 hours late last week," said weather.com meteorologist Nick Wiltgen. "Their average for the entire month of June is only 4 inches. Since the Barigui River is less than 50 miles long, it's not surprising they'd see a sudden rise in water levels – but barring additional heavy rainfall, any flooding should be short-lived."

So far, authorities in Curitiba say that flooding hasn't hampered World Cup preparations.

Speaking of which, I heard somewhere that the the ground where England plays it's first game is supposedly three months away from being up to world class standards or something.

Thanks 7Gs!

Yep, we play Spain in Curitiba!

Yea the pitch in Manaus is atrocious! I can't believe FIFA allowed the England vs Italy match to be held up there in the first place - it's miles north in a city with not much else but the new stadium (so I'm told). Fox Sports posted a pic of the pitch today, it is not a pretty site...

I just want to add, as expected, the expectations on Brazil are intense over here - losing does not appear to be an option, and it's as if Neymar is going to single handedly win it for them. The way the media go on about him you wouldn't think there was any other player in the National Team! Even during other player interviews they bring Neymar up...

Does anyone know Nash? Is anyone friends with him on FB or something. We haven't heard from him and it would be nice to know he's just out of reach and not in any trouble.
