So the clubs involved are:
Brazil Atlético Mineiro
Germany Bayern Munich
China Guangzhou Evergrande
Egypt Al-Ahly
Mexico Monterrey
New Zealand Auckland City
Morocco Raja Casablanca

So Raja play Auckland first to see who gets to play Monterrey while Evergrande play Al-Ahly.

Personally I'll be more then happy to see our Asia counterpart do well, but I'dlove to see the great man Ronaldinho lift the trophy for Atlético.
Always happy to see the trophy stay in the Southern Hemisphere as they really show they want it!

First game kicks off tonight/tomorrow morning our time. With the final being played on the night of the 21st.

First game down. It took Raja till the 92nd min to beat Auckland 2-1. Not a bad start to the tournament!

Watched this this morning - Auckland goal was Adelaide-esque defending from Raja. Three Raja defenders ran into each other and the City attacker just strolled through to a 1-1 and slotted it home.

Raja by far the better side overall.

I wonder if Oceania minds that they are just the easy beat confederation. God I would love to see East Asia pick it up and go it alone.

Well first upset of the tournament!

Raja have beaten Monterrey 2-1 in extra time.

In other news Evergrande has beaten Al Ahly 2-0
So that sets up a game with Bayern for the Asian Champions.

Evergrande play Bayern on the 17th
While Raja play Atlético Mineiro on the 18th.

A good job from our AFC reps. Bayern may well be a bridge too far however hopefully they make a good account of themselves.

Yeah as long as they don't get pumped I feel they will do us all proud.

What I find interesting is the change in the football climate over the years. I remember when Asian clubs were considered easybeats, with even the Oceania sides looking better. Now Asian clubs sides dominate anything out of Africa, as do the stronger Asian national sides, yet no-one really bats an eye-lid. The top Asian sides defeating the best that the African or North Americans have on offer is no longer an upset, but often par for the course.

The same goes for the 2nd tier of South American & European national sides.

The times they are a changing.

3-0 in the end. By no means disgraced.

Final Bayern v Raja Casablanca.

Raja knocked out Atletico Mineiro in the semis. Fantastic result for Africa!

Wow! I'm not sure how I feel about home country sides being in the tournament when everyone else had to qualify thru winning their Champions leagues but still amazing that they are there!

That was the only reason we were invited a few years back because gamba Osaka were the home club

True but we still were runner up in the ACL. I feel that holds more weight then the local league winners. Still they have made the final so I can't really argue with it.

On another topic. Cockrill says we should bid for the next tournament. Morocco has it next year as well as at this stage India are the only country to bid for it. Personally I'd much rather see us go for something like this over throw loads of money and a mickey mouse HAL all stars game.

I think the rule is the local league winner.
