73 dead in Egypt clashes

Postby Agostinho Thu Feb 02, 2012 10:20 am

At least 73 people have died and hundreds are injured after violent clashes broke out at a football match in Port Said between Cairo club Al-Ahly and local club Al-Masry, government officials said.

The violence flared after Al-Ahly, one of Egypt's most successful teams, were beaten 3-1. Television footage showed players running from the pitch chased by fans while a small group of riot police tried to protect the players, but they appeared overwhelmed and fans attacked the players as they fled. Fans of both teams clashed and stormed the pitch and dressing rooms. The deputy health minister, Hesham Sheiha, called it "the biggest disaster in Egypt's soccer history".

A black day for Egypt and for football.
This is not football. This is a war and people are dying in front of us.

According to reports on twitter (No way to confirm the accuracy) the violence was planned & organised by the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) against the Al Ahly Ultras in response to their role in the revolution and their anti-military views...

The more you look into what (allegedly) happened the sinister it gets... No Ambulances once the match was over, locking fans inside the stadium, fans let in with weapons before the match, security forces abandoning Al Ahly players and fans... Sickening...

Hopefully those bastards that committed these atrocities will one day be brought to Justice...

Some of the media have missed the point.

This is a country in huge political unrest with no real leaders and authority since their revolution

It is an absolute shame and can only hope egypt does not go into a downward spiral or everything in the past year has been pointless
Ppl who slap the label of truth on the 1st thing they hear, do it out of ignorance, convenience or cant be bothered picking through a thin layer of falsehood to find the real truth, or possibly even another lie
