Re: Leckie
http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/106 ... -World-CupStriker Mathew Leckie is ”disappointed but will move on” after being denied the chance to represent Australia at the World Youth Cup by his Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach.
Hmm play the senior Bayern side or a few U20 matches. What would you rather?
Time to Djbate!
Re: Leckie
Leckie carried us in his first season with us. He was one of the reasons we were top before he was injured. After his injury we went downhill. Dont know if Vidocic can have that impact? Hope so
Re: Leckie
I wondered if this would happen.
Honestly, its a non-contest and I am glad ffa saw sense. Making an impression early for a club is key to establishing yourself and how many Aussies have failed to do that.

Re: Leckie watch
made his debut on 78mins. commentary was in romanian so couldnt understand everything but they were talking about his speed and being a counter attacking weapon. they also mentioned that he came from adelaide united!
The first touch I saw of his was horrible, a fiercely struck ball down the left wing and he bundled it out of play off his shin or his knee. 2nd touch he got it on the edge of the box on the left again, tried to get past 2 defenders, got past the 1st but not the second. had a couple of 1 2s down the right wing but nothing came of it. he then won a ball on half way and had a chance to shoot but the defenders got back in time, unfortunately his layoff was cut out by their defence. Won a corner on the right side taking on a defender in the dying stages, there was no one to cross to in the box. Just before the whistle he won a free kick taking on a defender at halfway, and from the resulting play played a decent through ball to rupp who fluffed it.
not bad for 12 mins, especially considering stuttgart had most of the momentum after their equaliser.

Re: Leckie
Matthew Leckie made his Bundesliga debut coming off the bench for BMG against Stuttgart. It finished 1-1. I don't know how he played. But Woohoo!

Re: Leckie watch
I did not watch the game but "Kicker" reports he came on in the 77min and he experienced the sending off of his team mate Brouwers...
(By the way the two Leckie threads have been merged.)

Re: Leckie watch
Good morning Adelaide!
Fair enough.
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/soc ... 6114884303MATHEW Leckie is in line to make his Socceroos debut now that Brett Emerton is doubtful for the World Cup qualifier against Thailand.
Emerton suffered a hamstring injury in Blackburn's 2-1 opening day English Premier League loss to Wolverhampton at Ewood Park yesterday.
"...speed, power, strength and poise..."But German-born Socceroos mentor Osieck would have been undoubtedly impressed when Leckie made his Bundesliga debut yesterday, coming off the bench in the 77th minute in a 1-1 draw with Stuttgart. Within seconds Leckie put on a display of speed, power, strength and poise in front of 48,332 rowdy fans at Borussia Park.
Fair enough.

Re: Leckie watch
A very tough situation to debut in, playing as one up front after going a man down but boy oh boy he played very well!
His first two touches were pretty nervy but after that his speed and power really came in to play. Good passing and control, too. So happy for the guy.

Re: Leckie watch
I watched this game on Setanta and nearly wet myself when i saw him standing on the touchline bout to make his debut!
Yes his first touch was horrid (i put that down to nerves) but he did really well and used his pace to get in behind the defenders on a couple of occasions, winning a corner and a free kick!
He looked good and i think he will do very well in germany!
The commentator talked about him and Adelaide United alot, i felt all warm and fuzzy on the inside!
Setanta is also showing BMGs game this coming weekend aswell so hopefully he will get another run with 11 on the pitch.. ill be watching!

Matchday Shamboree!
Couldnt get the rights from sevengoals...
With the A league still 50 days or so away, the next best thing is clearly watching our favourite son get his crack at the big time.
Hopefully Leckie gets a start, no matter how unlikely it is.
