There is a nice article on The World Game regarding Ange and Yokohama F Marinos.

https://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/why-ex- ... re-respect

He certainly has brought some excitement to F. Marinos, who rather predictably have the highest goals scored whilst are shipping them at the other end. Still, after 15 rounds they are 4th and looking dangerous.

FC Tokyo currently lead the pack, something of a turn-around after a good decade or so of woe, with the stingiest defence in the league.

For the players:

Andrew Nabout is getting the odd start and odd goal for Urawa. He's occasionally not featured which may be because they are also using him for the ACL and cup campaigns.

Mitch Langerak is a firm feature in goals for Nagoya Grampus who currently sit 5th just behind F. Marinos. He's become something of a fan favourite in Nagoya and no doubt is enjoying his time there.

Pierce Waring has been playing for the Cerezo Osaka u23's who play in J3. He has players banging in goals around him so will want to be getting onto the score sheet if he intends to extend his spell in Japan.

F.Marinos had a regulation win on the weekend which sees them 2nd on the table, 3 points (and 4 goals) behind FC Tokyo. Kawasaki and Kashima are 2 and 3 points behind with a game in hand.

It is a big game though this Saturday, 30th of June, as FC Tokyo host Yokohama F. Marinos.

Another win for F,Marinos, this time 1-0 against Oita Trinita. Ange's side remains in second place, with Kashima and Kawasaki still hot on their heels with a game in hand. It has been an odd season thus far, with all of the top 4 sides essentially level pegging without dominating the competition. Banana peels abound in the J-League, a testament as to the eveness of the competition.

Nabbout didn't make the match-day squad for Urawa's win over Vegalta Sendai.

Big win for Yokohama F Marinos, 3-1 at home to Urawa Reds. F. Marinos dominated the game and even Urawa's solitary goal was courtesy of an F, Marinos own goal. It sounded a feisty affair: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports/201 ... SqX649S_IU

Kashima, as ever, are still in the hunt; 2 points behind with a game in hand. They have just agreed to transfer their young striking ace, Abe, to Barcelona. Not a shabby move for the 20 y.o. though it risks hampering Kashima's title asperations.

Match Day 26 and the Kashima engine is rumbling into life with a 2-0 win at home over league leaders FC Tokyo, bringing them to within 1 point. With 13 points from the last 5 matches it seems the outfit from Ibaraki are gathering steam. Not bad for a side that is competing in the second-leg of the ACL Quarterfinals mid-week.

Yokohama F.Marinos have overcome a couple of poor results with three wins on the trot, the latest against Sanfrecce Hiroshima (3-0). That leaves Ange's outfit 4 points off the pace in 3rd, very much in the hunt with 8 games still remaining in this year's competition.

Tokyo FC seem to have speed wobbles and really need to gain maximum points over the next two weeks against relegation zone sides Matsumoto Yamagata and Sagan Tosu.

Towards the bottom end is, surprisingly, Urawa Reds who are only 4 points clear of the relegation zone after accumulating a mere 2 points from the past 5 matches. With their ACL campaign going strongly they are going to have to make some tough decisions in the next few weeks if their domestic form does not pick up. The next game against Sagan Tosu is a real 6 pointer.

The wheels have well and truly fallen off Tokyo FC as their once commanding lead has gone with Kashima taking top spot with 6 games left to play. Yokohama F.Marinos' year continues its topsy turvy run with more topsy than turvy seeing Ange's side third, only 3 points behind Kashima and on something of a roll.

Getting close?

Getting closer. Kashima Antlers had a surpising draw with Matsumoto Yamagata (which has a fantastic castle, just for your information) and both FC Tokyo and Yokohama F Marinos recorded wins.

It leaves Kashima on top with 56 points and FC Tokyo second also with 56 and F,Marinos trailing with 55 points.

5 games to go.

Kashima have the toughest run in, with FC Tokyo and F.Marinos having fairly similar runs in however face each other on the last match day. F.Marinos are the home team.

That's a fourth straight win to Yokohama.

Ange and his team are now second, only a point behind FC Tokyo.
The momentum is with the Marinos!

Super! Angelo Super!

Oh, I've noticed Kawasaki have also put a pretty good home stretch run together.
A dark horse coming up on everyone's blind side?

It's a thrilling run to the finish, and often is in J1.

Kashima had the harder run home and Kawasaki are never easy (and bastards, they are my least favourite J1 club after all those years with their North Korean wrecking ball, Jon Tae Se who cannonballed straight into Josh Kennedy's back when he was playing for Nagoya Grampus). Still, the 0-2 loss at home counts as a welcome upset for both FC Tokyo and F.Marinos.

Three games to go and it is fast shaping up as a final day showdown.

Ange just had his contract extended by Yokohama, ACL in mind perhaps?

Kashima and FC Tokyo both suffered draws and Yokohama F.Marinos won leaving them top with 64 points. FC Tokyo are behind by 1 point and Kashima now 4 points off the pace with 2 points to go.

Next week is a tough test for Ange's men away to in-form Kawasaki Frontale who sit 4th. FC Tokyo host Urawa Reds who are in horrid domestic form, 4 points off the drop, and will be focused on the ACL Final second leg.

This is fast shaping up to be decided on the last day with the FC Tokyo v Yokohoma F,Marinos fixture.

It's in their hands.
Don't drop any points and they are Champions.
And Ange strikes again!

Super!
