It's almost election time. After being utterly schooled, the Saudis did not proceed with the nomination of Adel Ezzat leaving us with:
H.E. Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (BHR)
Mr. Saoud A.Aziz M A Al-Mohannadi (QAT)
H.E. Mohamed Khalfan Matar Saeed Alromaithi (UAE)
Yes, it would appear that the Gulf States are set to continue at the pinnacle though I suspect East Asia and ASEAN are backing another term for Shaikh Al Khalifa, leaving the other two candidates mired in the quagmire of the Gulf political crisis.
For the Vice President - ASEAN, we have as nominees:
Dato' Haji Hamidin bin Haji Mohd Amin (MAS)
Pol. Gen. Somyot Poompanmoung (THA)
Dr. Tran Quoc Tuan (VIE)
Mr. Zaw Zaw (MYA)
AFC Election - April 2019

It seems that Al Romaithi is stepping up the promises with a USD320 million dollar fund to dish out to member nations if he wins.

This particular campaign from the UAE does feel terribly cynical and speaks more of geopolitics than football.

So it seems the FFA are backing Sheik Salman along with the rest of ASEAN. My guess is most of East Asia will do the same in order to avoid getting involved in the Gulf political crisis, which is what backing either of the other two candidates would entail. Needless to say, the PFA is in an uproar due to the slow response of the AFC to the Hakeem incarceration and the Sheik's role in that response.

There are reports that the other candidates may withdraw, particularly if SAFF make a public call to back Sheik Salman on the weekend. I dare say Al-Mohanndi is only going to stay in the race to counter Al-Romaithi, so if the latter goes then the former will follow.

.........and it is over. The other two candidates have now withdrawn leaving Sheik Salman as the sole remaining candidate. The election will not be contested and hence Sheik Salman will win the AFC Presidency by default.
Al Romaithi withdrew a few days ago once the Central Asian nations threw their 'unanimous' support behind Sheik Salman. As expected Al Mohanndi withdrew yesterday as he was primarily in the race to counter Al Romaithi.
