Hong Kong managed an away draw to China (0-0) which is great for them and in our group Kyrgyzstan performed a similar feat in Jordan (0-0)

Bit of a mess, and I dare say such a result to Hong Kong of all places would have stung. Could be worse, could have been Taiwan.Wow. China, what's there deal?!Hong Kong managed an away draw to China (0-0) which is great for them and in our group Kyrgyzstan performed a similar feat in Jordan (0-0)
Rambo had a good game and had the assist for the 1st goal against the Maldives on Thursday night (friendly). He will be on the pitch for the Azkals in Tuesday's qualifier against the White Wolves which should be interesting.

As usual I'm a long way behind the conversation here... but I've been pleasantly surprised at Rambo's inclusion in the Philippine side - and his move to Iran actually. The Azkals played here in Qatar recently - there's a large Filipino population here (including my soon to be wife) and Rambo scored.
Incidentally, there's a nice article by John Duerden about Iain Ramsay in The Guardian today. A new series of articles on Aussies Abroad and its a solid start!

Re: 2018 World Cup Qualifiers
What are people's thoughts on the new format?
Personally I like it. Maybe the worst team in each group are a little too much off the pace but even then I think it's good as the strong teams have to travel to difficult places and the weak teams get to see what level they need to get too. I doubt we'll do it so comfortably in Dhaka at any rate!

Re: 2018 World Cup Qualifiers
IMO the more games the better. I think the most enjoyable element of the game the other day was that we were scoring thru people other then the regulars.
Football is a wonder way to open people's minds to other places and cultures.
Personally I've not heard a great deal about either Tajikistan or Kyrgyzstan before this. So I'm enjoying that side of things as well.

If I ever win the lottery, my dream is to follow the socceroos & the cricket team around the world. The socceroos in particular go to some fascinating places.IMO the more games the better. Only half an hour before the borecast... er... broadcast. At least we get to watch James May for half an hour
Pity I have to work tomorrow. Do you reckon the boss'd notice if I'm even less efficient than usual?

Re: 2018 World Cup Qualifiers
I'm a little disappointed with the timing of this round of qualifying - as I'm living not all that far (just a few hours flight) from many of these places and I would have loved to have gone to at least 1 of the away games but this year just isn't a good time for me.If I ever win the lottery, my dream is to follow the socceroos & the cricket team around the world. Will try to get along in the next round - I guess beginning towards the end of next year and into 2017.

Some more interesting results.....apart from the Jordan affair:
Timor Leste drew with Palestine 1-1 in Dili which is something of a blow to Palestine's campaign.
Tajikistan managed a 2-2 draw with Kyrgyzstan in Bishkek
Qatar beat China 1-0 which leaves China behind Hong Kong on the table due to goals scored.
The Philippines traveled to North Korea and came away with a 0-0 draw, leaving their campaign well and truly alive

A nod to Iran who have just qualified for the 2018 World Cup after defeating Uzbekistan 2-0.

Re: 2018 World Cup Qualifiers
A big game coming up tomorrow night, UAE v Saudi Arabia. I am not entirely sure as to why the game is being played on a different date to the others, however it will provide some context for the Japan v Australia match two days later.
UAE are still a mathmatical chance to qualify so will throw everthing they have at Saudi. A win for the Emirati's would take a lot of pressure of us, conversely a win for the Saudis ups the ante.

Ummmmmm....
3 strikers on the bench. 0 on the field. Kruse to start in the middle up front. Am I missing something?
