I'm a bit late with this but its sure worth a mention!

Australia has been admitted as a full member to the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) after an extraordinary congress in Dili, Timor Leste.

Massively happy with this. I feel this organisation it the perfect medium for us. It will offer loads of matches that involve the national side but aren't big enough to demand our Euro stars to jet in. This means more game time for HAL players and budding youth hopefuls.
I really hope there is some scope for HAL clubs to be involved as well. Maybe instead of third place going to the ACL they play in a Asean league.
There is currently a AFF Super League being organised but I think it is only stand alone clubs will be involved, this won't be a league clubs can qualify for. Possibly this it a test league and if viable can become something club can qualify for.

Great news for us, particuarly in the increase in competitions that we can engage in. I doubt we can play in the Suzuki Cup with a full squad, however an Olyroos type squad may be admitted.

The AFF SuperLeague could be a venue for a club based out of Darwin, maybe a youth side that played in the AFF Super League and the NYL. That would be exceptionally cool.

I wonder if the AFF super league could be something the AIS could be involved in. This is something I'd love to see the FFA take on out of the (hopeful) profits made out of WSW.

I wouldn't mind seeing a NYL side based out of Darwin being in the AFF Super League. It would be a bit cheaper on the flights front and could be a real boon for our indigenous football programme. It would also bring professional football to the Top End. I would assume the same side would join the NYL and be the NT's rep in the NPL & possibly FFA Cup.

As a cup competition, sure. But as a league, I don't think any higher up likes the idea of super leagues.

One thing I think would be good is scratching the AFC Cup and split that into smaller cups. Have a EAFF Club Cup and an ASEAN Club Cup. I reckon it would be great to have HAL clubs playing in that.
I'm pretty sure the Middle East already have separate cups.

Yeah I think so. Some people involved with clubs and businesses, would love super leagues, there are murmurs that the financial support is already there for a Euro superleague, but the individual governing bodies, are having none of it. It would be a rogue league in their eyes.
I would imagine its the same with ours, they wouldn't want something outside their "jurisdiction" or control. Who knows, maybe they're up for it.

Which would hopefully be helped by Myanmar being the furthest destination for HAL clubs to travel.

The AFC Cup is the 2nd tier competition and our league ranking is too high to compete. Hence no Japanese, Saudi, Iranian sides. Even Thai sides are ranked too high for the AFC Cup.
