Guangzhou: ACL Group H side Guangzhou Evergrande has made a marquee signing of Lucas Barrios for a four-year contract worth Chinese Super League record breaking 8.5 million Euros from Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund

Their biggest concern is the quality of the Chinese players. Bunyodkor made this mistake in the past, splashed out with gazzilions of dollars, paid for Ronaldinho, Scolari and the rest yet ended up struggling on the continental stage. Now I think they look far more dangerous with a guys like Tuarev, Karimov and Murzoev than they ever did with the big money earners.

If they spent that money on developing kids in Guangzhou and linking them to the club we'd be in real trouble several years down the track.

I agree I hope they are investing as much money in youth as they are on big names!
Which is something I find wierd. China is one of the most nationalistic countries round and national team success would and a huge boost to national pride. Why isn't the country doing everything it can to succeed in this department. North Korea are doing a better job!
