Yippee!
6-0
all over!
I think we did well.
Absorbed their early pressure and hammered them on the breaks.
Final!
(Just like any good Nationalmannschaft! )

Japan will be a good test, according to the commentators they are 'miles' better than us. Looking forward to saturday, see you then!

Re: Qatar 2011
well i think about vs'ing japan.... look at how tough japan had trying to beat south korea, we had similar circumstances only managing the draw
so i think itll be a fairly close match end of the day if both teams bring their a-game

Re: Qatar 2011
Certainly I am looking forward to the final. A great semi between the Koreans and Japanese though the refereeing was awful with some very strange and soft decisions and constant halting of play when the fouled side had advantage. Apart from that an absolute cracker of a match.
As for us, well what can you say?
Don't worry about Paul Masefield (if you guys got the ESPN half time summary - he's the heavy looking bloke with the salt and pepper curly hair), he's always hated Australia coming to Asia and is wanting oh so desperately for us to fail. How he picked Uzbekistan is beyond me.
Japan look the goods though, man they are quick with their passing.

I thought the match was tonight grrrrrr
Mckay is proof that life goes on after the golden generation, even more so that good form in the Aleague can and should result in socceroo call ups.
This time the asian cup has been great with so many positives regardlessif we lose the final.
The final should add to a building healthy rivslry wehave with japan.

Re: Qatar 2011
just out of curiosity, was McDonald on the bench last night?
would of been a good game to get a goal, but at this point it's more out of sympathy no?
we put 6 away, do we really need him?

Re: Qatar 2011
A fantastic result. Was well worth staying up all hours for it. Finally something to be proud of.
As a sidenote, Simon Hill mentioned it's our second major final. I assume he's thinking of the Confederations Cup against Brazil 5 or 6 years ago? Buggered if I can think of anything else.

Seems like Holger has (hopefully, quite rightfully and thankfully) lost faith in him and his selfishness.just out of curiosity, was McDonald on the bench last night?

It's difficult to see a future for McDonald to be honest. That he didn't start against India speaks volumes imo.

McDonald and Boyd have struggled at Middlesbrough. Says more about the quality of the league they come from than anything.

Re: Qatar 2011
I once had hope that Scotty McDonald would be our next striker and make the role his own. I really hoped that once the monkey was off his back for the first goal there would be a barrage of others streaming in after it. Sadly I think its time to give up on that faint glimmer of hope, he just isnt good enough to score for us. No out of position excuses blah blah blah, I think its time he was relegated to the B-roos. If, a big if, he can then find some scoring form then perhaps he can make his way back into the team.

Re: Qatar 2011
In all it was a good tournament as far as the football went, and even though we lost right at the end there has been little to separate the top sides of South Korea, Japan and Australia. Jordan and Syria had good tournaments as did Uzbekistan bar the brain fade against Australia. The only disappointing side was Saudi Arabia who have some serious soul searching to undertake.
2015 is in Australia and hopefully this tournament makes us hungry for more and we'll see good football in full stadiums with the Socceroos lifting the trophy.
It's fun being in Asia.
