A great effort by the big man, certainly the move to Korea has agreed with him. It is a pity that players such as Honda and Nagatomo are ruled ineligible because they couldn't attend the ceremonies.

Also well done to Kate Gill, it's great to see the women starting to reap rewards from the investment (paltry as it is) in women's football.

Irmatov had a great year as a ref (especially at the World Cup) though I thought the nod would have gone to Nishimura who I think has been outstanding. Perhaps the Japanese had cleaned up enough rewards as it was.

Socceroos defender Sasa Ognenovski played a large part in setting up a dream date with European champions Inter Milan as Asian champions Seongnam Ilhwa crushed Al Wahda 4-1 at the Club World Cup.

Seongnam captain Ognenovski broke a 1-1 deadlock on the half hour when he rose above the defence to unleash a powerful header into the net. Two further goals in the last 20 minutes sealed the result.
