I would be very surprised. Chinese nationalism is far too fierce for that scenario to unfold.

Alipay has just announced a 10 year, USD145 million dollar investment in Women's Football in China via their charity.

http://www.insideworldfootball.com/2019 ... ed-alipay/

With our new owners having such solid connections in China, will we see some cross-over in the Women's game? I think at times we are so focussed on the HAL we forget the possible opportunities for both South Australian and Chinese female footballers from this relationship.

Chinese football appears on the ropes at the moment with 2020 seeing Shanghai Shenxin, Tianjin Tianhai, Liaoning, Tianjin TEDA all folding and Jiangsu owners announcing yesterday they are getting out of football. These are big clubs in big cities.

That said, the model CSL clubs pursue is one that is fraught with governance and financial risk. Of the 16 clubs that are no longer in the CSL (since its inception in 2004), 12 are now defunct with only 4 surviving and plying their trade in Chinese League One.

The Chinese haven't been playing the long game when it comes to football. Some of their neighbours certainly have and the results speak for themselves. Gone are they days when an Asian face in a big European league was viewed as a money making venture, but those faces remain almost exclusively Korean or Japanese.

Some more here ...
When Xi Jinping, the country’s president, made clear about a decade ago that it was time to end China’s football underachievement, conglomerates and other enterprises connected to the state moved quickly to get involved in the local game. We are finding out what happens to their football clubs when the businesses that own them start to struggle.

Hopefully as the flash in the pan clubs fall away this gives AU's sister club more scope to slowly build! I still feel there is a massive potential once the world returns to some sort of normal that younger AU players struggling for decent game time would benefit greatly from a loan move to Qingdao should they be in the CSL 1.

That certainly is the hope, as development clubs such as Qingdao Red Lions have a lot to contribute.

One issue is the plethora of clubs in Qingdao; three in the third tier (including Red Lions) and one in the CSL (Qingdao Hainiu) as well as heavy weights Shandong Taishan (previously Shandong Luneng) who are in the same province.

You are correct, one or two of our players would benefit from regular game-time overseas. Offers a footballing, as well as life, experience.

A pity we received Yongbin Chen as his inclusion undermined a lot of fans' faith in receiving such players, which will make it much harder for the next Chinese player who is afforded such an opportunity. I do see he is included in the Red Lions' squad (at least on the Wikipedia page).

I haven't read a lot about Yongbin. I think the club could have done more to explain why he was here and if the scheme to share players such as this is something they are aiming to build upon. It would be great to hear from Yongbin in some capacity to see if he and Qinqdao feel his time in Adelaide was worthwhile.

Good point. Qingdao Red Lions have a prominent position on the AUFC website so it would be good to have some feedback placed there.

Jiangsu have been formally cut from the league as have four other sides in the second and third tiers.

My how things have changed. Evergrande Property Group is collapsing under a USD300Billion debt and as a result Moneybags FC are turning to the government with cap in hand. Poor things.

Things are likely to change in the CSL with the huge vanity funding no longer being a tool for garnering favour with the government. This, coupled with the dethroning by the government of high profile businesspeople and actors, will mean the high profile, profligate world of Chinese football may be set for a seismic shift.

http://www.insideworldfootball.com/2021 ... h-support/

The public frustration over the performance of the national team isn't helping.

Hebei FC have now stopped operations, that's 2 CSL clubs now out of the competition.

Interesting it appears to be a lot of the clubs who have splashed the cash significantly over the last decade that appear to be on the shakiest ground.

AU's sister club Qingdao in CSL 2 could see some promotion if the big boys at the top keep falling!
