On another night Clough would have 3.

Halloren has been poor tonight. Clough ineffective and really we didn’t offer much of a goal threat.

3 losses on the trot, I don’t like what I’m seeing from the reds this season.

Second half much better. Actually competed for the ball instead of just standing off trying to keep our shape.

Javi unlucky to hit the inside of the post with his header.
Ball falls to Clough in a crowded box (for once a loose ball in the box at one of the ends falls to us, and Clough was our best player to have it fall to), but his shot’s blocked.
Clough just offside from the rebound from Irankunda’s shot.

It just wasn't our night; no need to hit the panic button. Their goal was more than a tad fluky and we could have had 3 in the second half, as others have noted. Sometimes it's only centimetres between the ball going in and bouncing out again.

Clough continues to grow into the side and into his leadership position. He is acting as the ideal CAM/no. 10 (depending on the in game situation) and is finding his most dangerous positions now. He is clearly a lot happier in himself now, compared to 12 months ago with his long run of injuries and it's showing on the park.

Ben Halloran is still nowhere near his best, but is gradually playing himself back into form. A couple of his back flicks and look away side chips were like the Ben of old. A couple more matches with some crosses that find whoever is on the opposition penalty spot and he will be our RH threat again.

The backline looked a lot less leaky once Javi Lopez came on. The defence has really missed his cool head and sure touch on the ball. Best of all, once he came on, he could coach Alex Popovic again, directly. Popovic has the skill, but he goes down too quickly to make his tackles and Javi kept telling him to get up. Javi's influence is definitely what the backline have sorely missed for the past 8 weeks. Thank God he is back.

The coaching staff - presumably Milligan primarily - have clearly directed Irankunda to look up when he is on the edge of the opposition box, instead of blazing away and it's made him (and us) much more of a threat. One of Nestory's piledrivers into the goal is one of the joys of watching us play, but we are far more of a threat when he can bring the other forwards and CAMs into the goal threat.

I would give us a B+ for the Wallys match. It was not our best, by any means, but it was an order of magnitude better than the debacle against Sadney a month ago. The line on the graph has turned up again, anyway, so let's be grateful for that.
