So I jumped on a Portsmouth fan forum and asked what the locals thought about our new acquisition.

Predictably I got the mixed bag of positive and negative responses that you would expect on here if somebody asked about one of our ex players.

Anyhoo, here's what they said....

For the "head in the sand" optimists:

He gives a 100%, an honest player, not the greatest tackler but knows how to cross a decent ball. Personally I think he’s better playing as a number 8. Can be very good on the day. Hope he does well for you.

You must have missed that tackle back end of last season down by the corner flag. It was straight out of the Vinnie Jones, Ben Thatcher copybook. One of the best tackles I’ve ever seen.

It was a great tackle but it’s not usually his forte, IMO he’s more of a get things moving up front ( No8) style player, but as you’ve mentioned he does produce the odd audacious tackle.

He is an average Championship player ... he has played 260+ games at Championship level and only 60 in League 1. Also 3 games in the prem.

If you want someone to knit the midfield together and help play a passing game, you could do far worse.

And for the "why haven't we signed Messi" revolutionaries...

To be honest, if he does well in your league it won't boost the reputation of a league football.

He's an average league 1 player, not exceptionally good or bad at anything. Doesn't do a lot wrong, but equally doesn't do a lot. Wish him well but I'm glad he no longer plays for us.

He may have had his moments here, but overall he was one of the shittest midfielders I've seen at fp. Expect to hear loads of comments like "ex-Manchester United player" - the closest he'd get to playing at Old Trafford would be paying for a stadium tour. Anyway, nobody wanted him in the entire English or Scottish leagues (and they usually take anyone) so that says it all.

He was the 5/10 middling nobody that you would use to define what five out of ten was.

Scored on his debut then went downhill!

Sounds like most other players we sign. Ibusuki and Clough were the same and they've been decent at times. Certainly A-League level.

He might do well, he might not. But at least we've gone into the market for a position we are crying out for.

Like most of our imports, I'll wait and see. Hopefully he brings some maturity and experience to a central midfield that could find itself rather light in that department if Isa breaks down or retires.

The guy gets an instant legend status of he brawls his way through a MVFC fixture. Looks like he is good for it.

The tweets were in 2015 and the drink driving was 2012 when he was 19.

So he's had plenty of time to mull over his mistakes.

Oh yeah no doubt. As always with new signings, will give him the benefit of the doubt on & off the pitch

Plenty of time for him to learn and grow since then. Let's hope he has.
